Scott Spreitzer's World Series Game of the Year! (6-2, 75% winning run!)

Handicapper: Scott Spreitzer

League: MLB

Event: Detroit Tigers vs St. Louis Cardinals on 10/25/2006 at 17:25

Condition: St. Louis Cardinals

Grade: Ungraded

Promotion: We won with the Redbirds last night and we'll ride the arm of Jeff Suppan on Wednesday. The Tiger layoff, after sweeping the A's, has done quite possibly, irreparable harm. They're making shakey decisions in the field, and the clutch bats in the ALCS have absolutely hit the skids in the WS. Granderson, Polanco, and Rodriguez are 0-34 after powering the Tigers through the LCS. Slumps of that magnitude are incredibly tough to turn around in quick fashion. Just ask the Cardinal batters who fell on hard times in the 2004 WS and never recovered. Jeff Suppan takes the bump tonight. He's been outstanding at home in 2006. The Cards were 11-5 in his 16 home starts. His ERA is a sizzling 3.18 at Busch with a 1.28 WHIP. Suppan allowed just 1 ER and 5 hits in 15 IP against the Mets in the NLCS. Meanwhile, as well as Jason Bonderman pitched throughout the season and in the playoffs, the fact remains, he has not seen action in 10 days! Just like the rest of the team, I expect Bonderman to be rusty. It also must be noted that he is practically an automatic out tonight. Bonderman is 0-19 lifetime at the plate! Finally, the last time Detroit struggled behind the righty was partially due to a hitting slump. They lost 5 straight starts by him in August. In those tilts, the Tigers score just 16 runs. They've won 5 of his 6 starts since, scoring 49 runs. But the bats are back in a huge slump and Suppan keeps them quiet again tonight. St. Louis is my WS Game of the Year! Thanks! Good Luck! Scott

Detroit vs. Saint Louis Detroit 0.0 / 105.0 NA

After batting .297 in the AL playoffs and winning seven of eight games (averaged 5.5 RPG), the Detroit bats have fallen silent. Let's give the Cards' pitchers some credit too, as the Tigers have batted just .185 in the 2006 World Series (.154 with RISP), while scoring a total of just five runs! Down 2-1 in games, they will face the red-hot Jeff Suppan. However, I'm not "buying-in" to Suppan. He was brilliant aginst the Mets in two starts (15 IP / 5 hits / one ER) but I expect the Tigers to "wake up" in this game. Detroit has not played like the better team so far but the Tigers are the better team! Bonderdman may just be the team's best overall pitcher (Rogers only pitches well at home!) and the Tigers have won both of his postseason starts in 2006 (3.00 ERA). He has pitched well down the stretch (he's 4-0 since September 15 with a 3.13 ERA / team is 5-1) and I fully expect him to pitch well here. The two teams have alternated wins so far in the series and I see that continuing tonight. The Tigers (with a win) ensure that this year's World Series will return to Detroit on the weekend. 15* Det Tigers.

Detroit Tigers at St. Louis Cardinals

Chris Carpenter's stellar performance last night was no surprise; what was surprising were the defensive miscues and shaky bullpen of the Tigers. The result was a lopsided game that has Detroit in its first hole since Game Two of the ALDS. The Tigers battled back to beat the Yankees on the road in that game so they know it can be done. But they face one of the hottest pitchers around in Jeff Suppan tonight. Suppan, who looks to be showcasing his stuff just in time for his impending free agency, allowed only one run in 15 innings in the NLCS to garner the MVP award. Detroit starter Jeremy Bonderman has had two solid starts in the postseason, but both of those came at Comerica Park. His first road start (after an 11-day lay-off) against Suppan looks to be a tough chore. The Cards are a solid play to go up 3-1 in the series according to Dunkel, which has St. Louis favored by 1 1/2. Dunkel Pick: St. Louis

Game 907-908: Detroit at St. Louis

Dunkel Ratings: Detroit (Bonderman) 17.121; St. Louis (Suppan) 18.838

Dunkel Line: St. Louis by 1 1/2; 7

    Vegas Line: St. Louis by 1 1/2; 7 1/2

    Dunkel Pick: Neutral; Under
