VT v. BC Thursday Night

Not sure if I’ll play this game SU as I don’t want to go against Tech at home, but 13.5 seems like a lot of points to give. I already have it in a teaser that hit first two on MNF. Tough place to play, especially for night games. Went back 10 years to look at Thursday night home games……BC only one to win/cover vs the Hokies.

Thursday Night games in Blacksburg

2004: #15 VT (-10’) 55, Maryland 6

2003: #8 VT (-14) 35, Texas A&M 19

2002: #11 VT (-11) 47, #16 Marshall 21

2000: #3 VT (-22’) 48, West Virginia 20

1999: #8 VT (-12.5) 31, Clemson 11

1995: Boston College 20, #20 VT (-2.5) 14

As hoped/expected, game-time for 11/5 vs The U in Blacksburg set at 7:45 for ESPN. Should be a great one.

Totals Expert Ben Burns has TOTALLY TRASHED the Books on Thursday's all season long. Last week, Ben easily cashed with the UNDER when the Hokies visited Maryland. Ben, 12-3 (80%) his L15 CFB Totals, has an even STRONGER SELECTION lined up this week when the HOKIES HOST THE EAGLES. It's his THURSDAY NIGHT TOTAL OF THE MONTH!

3 STAR: VIRGINIA TECH (-13) OVER Boston College

Boston College is a good team, Virginia Tech is a great team and I'll keep riding them here as Blacksburg will be crazy for this Thursday night game. The Eagles have only faced one very good team this season and that resulted in an 11 point home loss to Florida State. On the road their only real test was a 3 point win at Clemson. Clemson is a tough place to play, but its not Blacksburg and Clemson is no where near as good as the Hokies. I look for Tech to make a statement on National TV against a ranked opponent. Virginia Tech has a huge advantage on special teams and I look for them to cash in on that in this game. Lay the points!

    1 Unit on Virginia Tech U 45 -110

BC’s offense is average but their defense is holding teams to well below their normal averages. Teams normally getting 3.6 yards per rush get just 2.5 to BC and 5.5 yards per pass to 6.9. They hold teams to a full yard per play below their normal season averages.

True Tech has one hell of an offense but they average 46 rushes per game so they eat up the clock. However on defense they allow 3.1 to 3.9 yards per rush, 5.1 yards per pass to 6.0 and 4.0 yards per play to 4.8.

Virginia Tech allows an average of nine per game â€â€

bryan leonard game of the month

Virginia Tech (-) over Boston College

The Eagles of Boston College have played two quality opponents this season, Florida State and Clemson. They lost at home to Florida State 28-17 and won at Clemson 16-13 in overtime. But those games were played a month ago and a disturbing trend has developed since then. In the last four games the Eagles have a negative 9 turnover margin!! In 7 games this season they have forced just 8 total turnovers, while commiting 14 themselves. For what we think of as a powerful football team these numbers really make us stop and think. Over the past five seasons Boston College has had a +31 turnover edge. In no season did they have a turnover deficit. Now they are down 9 turnovers in the past four games. That tells us one disturbing fact, this team is not physical to play in the ACC.

That's not a good thing when you are facing the turnover kings in Virginia Tech. Not only are the Hokies dominant in the special teams category, they are +9 in the turnover department. Over the previous five seasons they were +35 in turnovers. Virginia Tech has held every opponent this season to 17 points or less, including halding 4 of 7 teams to single digit scores. They are now 9-1 against the spread on Thursday Night Football as this team shines in the national spotlight.

Virginia Tech will not be afraid of running up the score because they trail both USC and Texas in the national rankings. They could possibly go undefeated and still not get a chance to play for the National Championship. Virginia Tech wins with defense and special teams, tonight they once again dominate.
