The Phillies were able to snap their six-game losing streak last night with a big win, and much needed one, against the Rays. They continued their dominance over Tampa Bay going back to the World Series from last season and all it took was a trip on the road where Philadelphia is a Major League best 24-9 on the season. Tampa Bay lost for the fourth time in six games as the offense has been held to three runs or fewer in five of those games. That could very well continue as Joe Blanton takes the hill for the Phillies, His last start notwithstanding, he has been pitching very well of late and it can be attributed to a mechanical adjustment made a short time ago. He had tossed four straight quality starts prior to allowing four runs against the Blue Jays last time out. His ERA has dropped nearly two runs over this span. He is 3-1 on the road this season with four of his six starts being quality performances. The Rays go with Matt Garza who was terrific to start the season but has fallen off of late. He had a 3.41 ERA through nine starts but he has had only one quality start over his last five games and has not won a game since May 15th. The Phillies are 5-1 in Blanton’s last six road starts against a team with a winning record while the Rays are 1-4 in Garza’s last five starts against a team with a winning record. 7* Philadelphia Phillies

Yesterday, the Tigers beat the Cubs 5-4 with two runs in the bottom of the ninth. Chicago outhit the Tigers 7-6, but Detroit made the most of their opportunities. Nothing motivates the Tigers more than a come-from-behind one run win. Detroit is 17-4 as a home favorite when they are off a win in which they came back from a deficit and it is not the first game of a series. In 2009, the Tigers are a perfect 5-0 in this spot, winning by an average of 2.4 rpg.

In addition, Detroit is 20-8 after a win in which they had 6 or fewer hits and it is not the first game of a series and 64-36 after a one-run win, making 24.6 net games.

The Cubs are 0-5 on the road after a loss in which they allowed 6 or fewer hits and 0-6 on the road after a loss in which they had a higher team-left-on-base than their opponent.

The Tigers are a perfect 7-0 in Porcello’s last seven starts vs a team that has hit more grounders than fly balls season-to-date. This price seems cheap.

    MTi’s FORECAST: DETROIT 4 Chicago 2

    Matchup: New York-A at Atlanta

    Time: 7:10 PM EDT (Wed)

Listed pitchers must go: (R) CHAMBERLAIN, J vs. (R) KAWAKAMI, K

    Play: Under (8.5 -105)

The Braves are coming off a shutout of the Yankees last night at Turner Field, extending New York's losing skid to three, as the two teams play the middle game of their three-game series tonight. Atlanta, following last night's UNDER, is now 4-11-1 to the UNDER at home when facing a right-handed starter after seeing a right-hander in their previous game. The Braves are also 5-13-2 to the UNDER at home at night against right-handed starters, facing Joba Chamberlain tonight. Chamberlain lost as a favorite of -310 his last time out, a 3-0 setback to the Nationals at home. Joba has allowed 1 ER or less in four of his six road starts this season, while compiling an ERA of 2.72 away from the new Yankee Stadium. Kenshin Kawakami is off an impressive start at Fenway Park, shutting down the Red Sox, 8-2. Kawakami delivered his second-best start of the season, allowing 2 ER and 2 hits in 6 IP. Kawakami is starting to get comfortable at Turner Field, turning in three straight quality starts at home. The Yanks have now gone UNDER in 14 of their last 17 Interleague contests, including seven of the last eight dating back to last season on the road. The Bombers have scored just 13 runs in their last six games, and with their occassional struggles against right-handed pitchers, especially one that haven't seen before, I'll take the Yankees and Braves to finish UNDER the total.

    Matchup: San Diego at Seattle

    Time: 10:10 PM EDT (Wed)

Listed pitchers must go: (R) GEER, J vs. (R) MORROW, B

    Play: Over (8.5 -120)

The Padres aren't exactly an offensive juggernaut, but they scored nine runs on Tuesday night in beating the Mariners, and their best Over pitcher goes tonight. Josh Geer hasn't been missing many bats and is getting hit hard, but he usually manages to get decent run support. Nine of Geer's 12 appearances have gone Over the number. Brandon Morrow has looked good since moving back into the Seattle rotation, but he's still being stretched out and likely won't work past five or six innings here, even if he's on his game. The home plate ump is a huge plus for the two offenses. Randy Marsh has a notoriously small strike zone, which could be a major factor given Morrow's occasional control problems. I expect a second straight shootout between the Padres and Mariners and I'm playing this contest Over the number.

I feel ya Vegastaco...didn't get my play in time on Bpicks because I watched that beautiful upset. What a game.

    Philly @ TB

    Play: under 9 1/2

Man, You gotta be amazed by Philly's 24-9 SU road record but I'm playing the total in this one. Let's look at some numbers:

    Garza's Last 5 starts:

    Last Five Starts

Date Opp SC Dec IP R ER H BB SO HR H/Open H/Close Tot Op Tot Cl

    5/26/09 at CLE 1-5 L 6.0 4 4 5 0 7 3 +117 +110 9.0-125 9.5-110

    5/31/09 MIN 2-3 L 7.0 3 3 7 1 6 1 -150 -155 9.0+110 8.5-125

Notice all of these games easily went under the 9 1/2 listd.

    Blanton's last 5 starts:

    Last Five Starts

Date Opp SC Dec IP R ER H BB SO HR H/Open H/Close Tot Op Tot Cl

    5/26/09 FLO 5-3 W 7.0 0 0 5 2 11 0 -145 -147 10.5+100 10.0-110

    6/18/09 TOR 7-8 5.1 4 4 9 1 2 2 -180 -165 10.5-110 10.0+100

Other than his last time out...easy under for the 9 1/2 listed

Throw in the fact that the pub is 80% on the over and I think we got a nice winner.

I watch a lot of MLB and I can tell you this about blanton, he's a groundball pitcher. Garza has been very good for the Rays and as long as we don't get 3 errors (like what happened to Price last night) the under looks good to me. Howell has been solid in relief for the Rays and Lidge is finally back for the Phils. I think the under is the play.

    2** on Philly/TB under 9 1/2

    GL players.

I like Carp and Johan to go under 7 in an early day game. Should be a classic pitcher's duel with two teams who don't have a lot of sluggin. I know Albert is red hot and Wright is hittin 350% something, but the backends are good and the two are gonna duel.

We hit on Tampa last night, 3-0 on soccer a few days before, let's make it 5-0. Lusaka, congrats on the Brew Crew, what an exciting game that was. Take care players.

5-0 ATS in the last 5 and on a real good run for the better part of a month on GP..here's what I got for ya tonight:

    Service play on Yanks/Bravos.

    GP play:

    Texas @ Zona:

    Garland and Feldman.

I'm not sold on Feldman and his 3.something ERA. Everyone talked about how great the Rangers starters were to begin the season, but with that being said, the Angels have finally caught them. Zona is a solid 24-14 ATS on the over at home and seems to be finally getting some offense. Here's a pitcher they can tee up on in my opinion. In the other dugout, Jon Garland has proven he has all kinds of fits with Texas's lineup. Look at his last 3 games against when he was an Angel last year...

    VS. Opponent ( Last 5 Starts - Since 1997)

Date Opp SC Dec IP R ER H BB SO HR H/Open H/Close Tot Op Tot Cl

    4/06/08 TEX 4-10 L 5.0 7 7 8 2 2 2 -170 -170 9.0-125 9.5-110

    8/28/08 TEX 7-5 W 8.0 5 5 8 1 3 2 -185 -175 9.0-125 9.5-125

    9/19/08 at TE15-13 2.1 9 8 10 0 4 1 +110 -110 11.0-110 11.0-110

14 runs, 12 runs, and 28 runs. A whopping 21 earned runs in a solid 15 innings pitched.

Now your tellin me the public is on the under too? Sheesh, Texas bats get healthy against an old foe, Zona bats tee off against Feldman. The 5 year starter for texas is having his best year by far, but this guy is a joke. The over is the play.

    2** on Texas/Zona over 9 1/2

    Matchup: Cincinnati at Cleveland

    Time: 7:05 PM EDT (Fri)

Listed pitchers must go: (R) HARANG, A vs. (L) SOWERS, J

    Play: Cleveland (-1.5 +175)

Aaron Harang is a solid pitcher for the Reds, as long as he is pitching at home. Harang has a road record of 2-14 in his last 16 decisions. jeremy Sowers is the same type of pitcher, but fortunately, he will be getting the ball at home. Sowers overall numbers shows him with an ERA of well over 5, but when he has gotten the ball at home, he has pitched to a 2.70 ERA in his last 4 starts. Reds are just 19-41 last 60 on the interleague road, and 5-13 vs a lefthander. Indians have won 7 of their last 8 vs a team with a losing road record. I'm backing the Indians here on the runline.

    Matchup: Florida at Tampa Bay

    Time: 7:35 PM EDT (Fri)

Listed pitchers must go: (R) JOHNSON, J vs. (R) SHIELDS, J

    Play: Florida (ML +133)

    Line Source: SPORTSBOOK

    Posted on: June 26, 2009 @ 12:23:09 PM EDT

In his last start, Josh Johnson went seven innings and beat the Yankees 2-1 at home. He allowed three hits, two walks and he struck out seven. This season, the Marlins are a perfect 8-0 when Josh Johnson starts after a quality start at home, with five of the eight wins coming as an underdog. Also, we expect more than two runs of support here, as the Marlins are 5-0 when they scored two or fewer runs for their starter in his last start, putting an average of 7.2 runs on the board and winning by an average of 3.4 runs.

Yesterday, the Marlins hammered the Orioles 11-3 with 17 hits to sweep their three-game series and run their winning streak to five games. Florida is 23-11 after a win in which they had 12+ hits.

The last time the Marlins faced Shields, they won 5-4 in extra innings. Florida is motivated when placed in the role of underdog vs a starter they beat the last time they faced him. The Marlins are 19-10 as a road dog when they won the last time they faced their opponent’s starting pitcher.

Yesterday, the Phillies scored four runs in the top of the first against Tampa, but the Rays scored the next ten runs to win 10-4. Tampa is vulnerable in this spot, going 8-17 as a favorite in the first game of a series when they are off a win in which they came back from a deficit.

Josh Johnson is just not getting the respect he deserves. Take Florida.

I'm still kicking myself for not backing the Yankees against the Braves last night. The Red Sox will be in bounce-back mode after dropping last night's game at Washington. Josh Beckett owns an 8-3 record and 3.74 ERA so far this season. The right-hander just threw a five-hit shutout to the Braves at Fenway last Saturday.

6-0 ATS in the last 6

here's what I got for tonight:

    MLS on ESPN 2:

Take the under 2 1/2 goals in the Dynamo/Galaxy game.

Game's being played at the Home Depot Center. Houston has allowed 9 goals this year and the Galaxy aren't exactly world beaters with 18 scored (11 at home) this season. No Donovan, Buddle is limping, and Houston will bunker in. I like Houston to win the game as well, but I'm just playing the under. Houston on the road won't get 3, maybe 2, but I'm thinking 1-0 or 2-0 Houston

    2** on Houston/LA under 2 1/2 -110

    MLB:

Man, two games and I really studied both of them. I initially liked the Yanks runline but I'm going with the under. Wanger is slowly but surely getting better and Livan has to eat innings and keep the Mets in it. I read an incredible stat, the Mets are batting 137 as a team in the last 8. I don't see the Yanks blasting away on Livan and I surely can't see the Mets lighting up the Yanks to the tune of this total. If it was around 8, maybe, but I'm sticking under the 9 1/2 with these back ends of K Rod and mariano. Let's hope Livan and an improving wang can keep it low.

    3*** on Subway series under 9 1/2

    GL fellas
