SAN FRAN GIANTS ML +110...Don't look too quick but the Giants have won 14/19 behind stellar pitching. The Angels continue to fail to impress me and I don't see it changing tonight. The Angels will be pounded by the Public based solely on Lackey's name and on Zito's struggles the last bunch of years. Zito actually has a 2.70 ERA at home and has won (both on road) his last 2 starts. Lackey has a 6.75 ERA on the road and most recently got shellacked by Tampa. San Fran doesn't have the best offense but I see them winning tonight. I also like the under but really like the Giants at great value. SAN FRAN +110.

ST LOUIS CARDINALS ML +105...Verlander looks nearly untouchable lately and this line is screaming to take Detroit. V's road ERA is 4.39, much higher than his home ERA and St Louis can play ball...Like +money w/ the home team...

MC HAMMER #9.......CINCINNATI REDS ML +140...Reds finally snapped a long losing skid with their win to start the homestand. Atlanta is slumping big time on their road trip. Owings has pitched well enough his last 2 starts to keep them in it. I will take +140 w/ the home team.

MC HAMMER #10......MINNESOTA TWINS RL -1.5 +110...Liriano has been a mystery so far but Minny is FAR superior to Pitt and at + money I like them to lay a whooping on Ian Snell.

**10** INTERLEAGUE ***GAME OF THE YEAR*** The Brewers catch a solid price here and should once again take it to the struggling Indians. Milwaukee has taken the first two games of this series with a potent offense and the bats should come alive again tonight. I have ridden Jeff Suppan a lot lately and it has paid off as he is pitching very well right now. He is coming off another quality start and he has now allowed three runs or fewer in 10 of his last 11 starts. After starting the season with a 12.91 ERA through his first two outings, he has compiled a 3.45 ERA in those last 11 games with Milwaukee winning eight of those contests. He has faced Cleveland numerous times in his career with mixed results but not since 2002 so any history can be tossed. The Brewers are 6-2 in Suppan’s eight road starts where his ERA sits at 3.89. He will go up against rookie David Huff who is showing signs of turning things around after a rough start. He is coming off his first quality start of the season and it was the first time that he threw over 100 pitches so it might not be the best performance this time around. He has been solid in his two home starts but he will be facing a tough offense that has had a lot of success on the road. The Brewers are 6-2 in their last eight road games against a left-handed starter and they are 6-1 in Suppan’s last seven road starts. Cleveland is not having a good season at home and it is 3-9 in its last 12 games as a home favorite of -110 to -150. The Indians are 3-10 in their last 13 home games against a team with a winning record. Last but not least, Milwaukee is 6-0 in the last six games in this series. 10* Milwaukee Brewers

Philadelphia starter Jamie Moyer has a 10-0 strikeout to walk ratio in his last 3 starts. The Phillies are 14-6-1 UNDER their last 21 Interleague games and they are 10-2 UNDER when the Total is 9.0 to 10.5. Philadelphia is 15-6-1 UNDER with Moyer vs. winning teams. Toronto starter Scott Richmond has allowed 3 or less runs 7 of his 10 starts this year and he has a better than 5-1 strikeout to walk ratio in his last 3 starts. The Blue Jays are 10-4-1 UNDER after scoring 5 or more runs in their last game and they are 8-3 UNDER their last 11 road games. 10* PLAY ON 'UNDER' (Moyer vs. Richmond)

Micah Owings is coming off a strong start where he allowed just one run in 5 1/3 innings to the Nationals on Thursday and he has had success in his career against the Braves posting a 3-0 record and a 2.70 ERA. Owings struck out six and surrendered just one run in seven solid innings of an 8-2 win over Atlanta back on April 26th.

Atlanta hasn't given starting pitching Javier Vasquez any support which is why despite his performance, the Braves have lost four straight when he takes the mound.

Look for the Braves bats to be quiet again tonight as Cincinnati gets the "W."

    Matchup: Pittsburgh at Minnesota

    Play: Over (9.0 -120)

    Line Source: SPORTSBOOK

    Posted on: June 17, 2009 @ 12:51:51 PM EDT

PLAY ON Over the Total, Pittsburgh (Snell) vs. Minnesota (Liriano), Wednesday at 8:10 PM EST

Francisco Liriano has made back-to-back quality starts but it does not hide the severe problems that the talented left-hander has had on the mound this season. It is worth noting that those two starts came in Oakland and Seattle, against two of the weakest hitting offenses in the AL and two of the lower scoring ballparks. In seven of his 13 starts this season he has allowed four or more runs and his ERA is 5.99 on the season. Walks have been a problem with an average of nearly three per start bringing his WHIP to 1.54. The Minnesota bullpen has shown some improvement but is still not one of the better units in the league so scoreless frames late in the game would be unlikely.

The Metrodome has the seventh highest ballpark OPS in baseball and the third highest ballpark batting average at .280. Nearly 10.5 runs per game are being scored in the final season indoors in Minneapolis, with 77 home runs hit. The Twins have been an excellent hitting team this season, featuring more power than expected and Pittsburgh has also been a productive offensive team with the fourth highest team batting average in the NL. Over the last ten games the Pirates are batting .283 against left-handed pitching and the "over" is 5-3 in the past eight Pittsburgh road games.

Ian Snell continues to struggle for the Pirates as he is winless on the road and features a 5.40 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP. Snell has allowed three or more runs nine times this season despite averaging less than six innings per start. The Pittsburgh bullpen has taken twelve losses on the season and features just a 1.16:1 strikeout to walk ratio, the worst in baseball for a relief unit. Minnesota's recent scoring numbers are a bit watered down after playing in pitching friendly parks in Chicago, Oakland, and Seattle in the last two weeks but in the last eleven home games the Twins are averaging close to six runs scored per game.

One of the top offensive teams in baseball has become a fantastic UNDER play recently, as the Rangers go for the three-game sweep of the Astros in Arlington tonight. Texas has hit the UNDER in 11 straight games, including all eight on their current homestand. The Rangers are 2-11-1 to the UNDER their last 13 at home against right-handed starting pitchers, facing Brandon Backe tonight. Backe makes the start for Houston in place of the injured Mike Hampton, who strained his groin in his last outing against Arizona. Backe has been in and out of the Astros rotation over the last few seasons, making four relief appearances this season with an ERA of 12.00. Vicente Padilla has faced some stiff competition in his last four outings, facing the Dodgers, Red Sox, Yankees, and Angels. Padilla has held his own, winning three of those four outings, while the Rangers have finished UNDER the total in six of his last eight starts. Houston has gone UNDER the total in nine of 11 games (with one push) facing a right-handed starter after a left-handed starter. The UNDER has hit in four of the five meetings this season between these two teams, and with Texas' offense manufacturing fewer runs a game recently, five or six runs may be enough for a victory. I'll take the Astros and Rangers to finish UNDER the total.

It looks like second year starter Luke Hochevar is finally starting to find his confidence as the second year righty is coming off two quality starts and a complete game in his most recent outing. Luke faces another struggling offense, so his command and confidence should remain in tact for tonight’s game, giving the Royals a quality start and plenty of innings. Haren is a quality starter for the Diamondbacks but he has been more susceptible to give up runs in road games, the Royals have been hitting right-handed starters better of late, look for the Royals to take this game.

    Play: Detroit (ML +110)

At 8:10pm our selection is on the Detroit Tigers over the St. Louis Cardinals. These two teams have played each other every year for the past three seasons, and in 2006 they met in the World Series (St. Louis won in five games) so there is a lot of history here. Young starter Rick Porcello has pretty much come out of nowhere to firmly plant himself as one of the early season favorites for AL Rookie of the Year. The 20-year-old Detroit righthander had a quality start and a win in his last outing in Pittsburgh and is now 7-4 with a 3.71 ERA. And, since early May, he's 6-1 with a 2.53 ERA. This would seem like a very good spot to extend his excellent record as although he is facing a solid team in the Cardinals, his opposing pitcher (veteran righthander Joel Pineiro) has lost four starts in a row, and Pineiro's ERA over his last three outings is an abysmal 5.87. Since their loss in the World Series of 2006, the Tigers are 5-3 in the last eight meetings of these teams, and that includes the two wins by St. Louis in the first two games this season. Despite averaging more than 20 starts per year, Pineiro has not seen more than eight wins in a season since the 2004 season when he was a member of the Mariners. He also hasn't seen an ERA under 4.3 runs during this time and his ERA this season is approaching that level very quickly. Take the Tigers.

Off 3 straight wins, the Nats will endure a big time letdown tonight. Toronto had its letdown last night after sweeping the World Series champion Phillies and now it will be ready to bounce back strong. The key for the Jays is sending a lefty to the hill (Cecil) as the Nats are only 4-13 against southpaw starters this season. In fact, the Nationals are 6-20 in their last 26 home games vs. a left-handed starter. The Jays should have the advantage at the plate also as the Nationals are 0-6 in Detwiler's last 6 starts. Bet the Blue Jays!

This price is just too small and good to pass up on.

J.Johnson has been great. At home he's 3-1 with an ERA of 2.02! Having allowed only 45 hits and 10 BB's in 58 innings, while striking out 55!

A.J. Burnett has not been very good on the road. He'is 3-2 but in 34.2 innings he's alloed 33 hits and 18 BB's while posting an ERA of 5.19!

The Yankees are benching A.Rodriguez, coupling that with no DH. And the Yankees are at a big disadvantage vs Johnson.

    Take the Marlins.

One of the best Under umps in the game is on the dish tonight, as John Hirschbeck will call the balls and strikes in the White Sox-Reds hookup. That adds to what already looks like a low scoring game. Johnny Cueto is pitching at a very high level for the Reds, and Clayton Richard has been mostly decent for the Chisox. It sure doesn't hurt that neither of these teams is very good offensively. I think all the ingredients are there for a good pitching duel tonight, and I like this game to finish Under the posted number.

The Angels’ starter, Jered Weaver, has pitched very well recently. In his last outing he pitched a complete game shutout at home vs the Padres. He threw 119 pitches, allowed a lone walk, scattered five hits and the Angel won 6-0. Because of this, he is a heavy favorite vs the team with the best record in the league. However, the Angels can be very soft in this spot. LA is 0-8 with Weaver when he had a WHIP of less than one at home in his last start and the Angels won by more than two runs. The Angels were the favorite in six of the eight, but they lost by an average of 2.9 rpg. This season, the Angels are 0-3 in this spot, allowing a whopping 25 runs in the three games.

Also, the Angels are 0-4 as a favorite of at least 140 with Weaver when he threw 100+ pitches at home in his last outing and the Angels won by at least three runs.

This season, the Dodgers have been stellar vs a team on a winning streak – especially if they were the victim of their opponent’s last win. LA is a perfect 6-0 THIS season vs a team that has won at least their last two games, as long as it is not the first game of a series, winning by an average of 3.3 rpg.

In addition, the Dodgers are 6-0 THIS season when seeking immediate revenge for a loss in which they allowed 5+ walks. Fitting in nicely here is the fact that the Angels are 6-13 as a home favorite after a win in which they drew 5+ walks. Continuing, we find that the Halos are a money-burning 17-22 as a 140+ favorite after a one run win and it is not the first game of a series and 33-35 as a home 140+ favorite when they won the last two games their starter started, dropping more than 25 units.

LA’s Jeff Weaver has also pitched very well recently. In his last outing the Dodgers managed only two runs of support, but they won 2-1. The LA offense owes Weaver some runs and they make good on these debts. The Dodgers are a huge 16-4 as a ROAD DOG when they scored two or fewer runs for their starter in his last start. This season LA is a perfect 4-0 in this situation, winning each game by multiple runs. This line is an insult to the Dodgers. The Angels streak should end today and we’re getting a ridiculous price.

MTi’s FORECAST: LA Dodgers 7 LA Angels 3
