PC MLB OPENING DAY
PC MLB Opening day:
I got two plays and one opinion play for MLB opening day:
St. Louis vs. San Diego:
I'm taking Carp and the Run line - 1 1/2 +115 vs San Diego in an afternoon tilt. Let's look at some numbers:
**Tim Stauffer is 0-4 lifetime against the Cards with an ERA of 9.33 in 4 starts against the Cardinals.
**Carpenter is 3-2 lifetime in 6 starts with an ERA of 3.82 vs this team.
The Cardinals lost Adam Wainwright, and will lean heavily on the very capable Chris Carpenter to be their #1 this year. He has been outstanding over the years, and injured, but he's coming into this game 100%. Let's not forget the offseason hubub around Pujols not signing an extension. He's going to show this year he is still the machine. An improved Colby Rasmus with the always steady Matt Holliday gives this lineup some serious punch. I looked at San Diego's depth chart and this doesn't exactly inspire run scoring in my opinion. Gonzo moved to Boston and look at what they are throwing out opening day:
LF: Venable
CF: Maybin
RF: Ludwick
3B: Headley
SS: Bartlett
2B: Odog Hudson
1B: Hawpe
C: Hundley
Bunch of has beens and unprovens. Where is the scoring going to come from.
Cards in a blowout:
PC 2.5** on St. Louis - 1 1/2 +115
Milwaukee @ Cincy
Normally you think of Volquez and Gallardo and think pitcher's duel. In the immortal Lee Corso's words: Not so fast my friends. Both pitchers have a lifetime ERA of over 5 against today's opponent. Yovanni is usually a slow starter. The Brew Crew has a wrecking machine of a lineup anchored by Braun and Fielder and emerging sluggers like Corey Hart and Casey McGahee. This team is built for run scoring and Cincy is one of the best slugger parks in the NL. In addition, the Reds have reigning MVP Joey Votto and their own monster's row of bangers. Volquez had a terrible spring and both teams have question marks at the back end of the bullpen. I think the over is the best play of the day for the early games.
