I don't believe in GOYs but I'm hammering this play.
East Carolina travels to Rice for what should be a very entertaining game. This game will have fireworks from the get go!
Let's look at the numbers.
ECAR
#5 pass offense and #93 rush offense = 444 ypp
#105 pass defense and #114 rush defense = 466 ypp
#119th total defense allowing 41 ppg
#20th total offense scoring 38 ppg
RICE
#60 pass offense and #88 rush offense = 352 ypp
#119 pass defense and #55 rush defense = 458 ypp
#117th total defense allowing 40 ppg
#78th total offense scoring 25 ppg
Another keep stats is both team's completion percentage. ECar is #24 at 65% and Rice is #51 at 60%. And, even more impressive is ECar's TYPP (total yards per point) at 11.6 which is #12 nationally. This is good stuff. Not only do the score but they score quickly. And, Rice is # 64 (average) but against ECar's defense - this will vastly improve. I expect quick first downs which will stop the clock and lengthen the game for additional points.
I expect plenty of points in this game. Rice has been improving on offense the last few weeks generating an average of 38 points against Tulane and Tulsa on the road. Believe it or not ECar is weaker than both of them. Rice will keep up with ECar in this slugfest.
