Here is my first release.
Kentucky -15 vs. Miami OH
A middle of the pack SEC team vs a bottom MAC team -- oh boy!!
Lets start with MIA O
New coach with a complete new pro-style system with multiple formations. They bring back their QB but lost three starters on the offense line including their center and tackles. This group is less experienced and learning a new system which doesn't bode well against a Kentucky defense. The defense has lost its top 4 tacklers from 2008 including their linebackers. This is a huge loss.
Last year's team could only generate 19 PPG and allowed 33 PPG. I expect the defense to be in big trouble vs. rushing offenses. The finished the year 0-5 SU/1-4 ATS against MAC teams while allowing 41 PPG in that stretch. This team was 2-10 last year and are in for a long day week one.
Lets look at Kentucky
I read that Brooks made comments that this year is the best team in quite awhile. After all, they return 7 on the offense including 7 O-linemen with experience, RBs and their QB. This offense should improve on their 23 PPG from last year. On the defensive side, their line will be strong but they have some key losses at the linebacker positions. The secondary will be healthy and is the best in many years.
I expect Kentucky to control this game from the beginning. They should be able to open up holes and pound the ball all day long. They will wear down this undersized MIA O defense and by the middle of the third qtr the spread should be covered. I can't see much scoring from MIA O in this game. I expect them to be very sloppy in week one as they deploy their new system. I don't believe their QB will have the time to pass and I expect a few interceptions which will lead to a short field if not a major.
Life outside the SEC was gold last year (5-0) for Brooks and company. Brooks mentioned this year's focus was to restore the offense to the 2006 and 2007 levels of production. What better way to start off the year with a blow out against an inferior opponent. Just what the doctor ordered!!
