Game: Arizona at Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10 PM Eastern)

Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers -115 (moneyline)

When you can get the best home team in baseball at almost break-even odds, you have to give it a very close look. That value is more enticing when you consider the fact that the Dodgers are two runs a game better offensively than the Diamondbacks, and have pitched equally well. Dan Haren is an outstanding pitcher, but has not been sharp in recent outings, and as good as he is, over his last 57 road starts his teams have a losing record! The Dodgers are 23-4 in their last 27 as a -110 to -150 home favorite, and 10-2 in Wolf's last 12 home starts. The D-Backs are just 1-4 in Haren's last five starts vs. the National League West, as well as his last five starts vs. the Dodgers. The D-Backs have also not fared well here, as they are just 1-7 in their last eight games in Los Angeles. The Dodgers get the call here.

    Penquins -140

I think the Pens outplayed the Wings in the last game. A few lucky breaks/bounces, and the Pens win that one - or at least make the score closer. At home, the match ups will be different. Crosby will not have his shadow, Zetterberg, on him. This one goes the Pens way.

San Francisco is 11-4 their last 15 games as favorites and they are 16-7 vs. team with win percentage of under 40%. Starter Tim Lincecum has a better than 4-1 strikeout to walk ratio in his last 3 starts and he is 8-3 vs. NL East teams. Washington is 8-22 their last 30 home games and they are 17-58 off loss. Starting pitcher Craig Stammen has allowed 7 runs in 11.1 innings of work in two starts this year. The Nationals are 12-51 vs. winning teams. 10* MLB BLOWOUT WINNER PLAY ON SAN FRANCISCO - (Lincecum vs. Stammen)

I really like the Minnesota Twins in this game vs the Cleveland Indians...K.Slowey has been money this entire season and the Twins are hot...the Twins are 11-1 in their last 12 games as a favorite...24-4 in their last 28 home games vs. a left-handed starter...7-0 in Sloweys last 7 home starts with the total set at 9.0-10.5...11-1 in Sloweys last 12 starts with 5 days of rest...the Indians are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings in Minnesota...Minnesota is the play here

    Handicapper: Bill Marzano

    Matchup: Philadelphia at San Diego

    Time: 10:05 PM EDT (Tue)

Listed pitchers must go: (L) BASTARDO, Antonio vs. (R) PEAVY, J

    Play: Over (7.5 EVEN)

    Line Source: SPORTSBOOK

    Posted on: June 2, 2009 @ 12:29:36 PM EDT

A total this low is reserved for aces. That's not the case, though, in this matchup.

The Phillies' Antonio Bastardo is set to make his big league debut replacing injured Brett Myers. The Phillies' bullpen is facing fatigue issues with closer Brad Lidge having worked the past four games.

Bastardo will have to deal with the top home run hitter in the game right now, Adrian Gonzalez.

The total is extremely low because Jake Peavy is on the hill in his home park. Peavy, though, hasn't been outstanding this season. He's 5-5 with a 3.67 ERA.

Peavy also is dealing with tendinitis in his right ankle.

Considering these circumstances, the total is too low.

    Handicapper: Stephen Nover

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Matchup: Arizona at Los Angeles-N

    Time: 10:10 PM EDT (Tue)

Listed pitchers must go: (R) HAREN, D vs. (L) WOLF, R

    Play: Los Angeles-N (ML -115)

    Line Source: SPORTSBOOK

Although Dan Haren has been at the top of his game this season, the righty has had little success at Dodger Stadium where he posted a 10.38 ERA in losing two starts last season.

Randy Wolf is coming on strong and is 2-0 with a 2.03 ERA in his last seven starts. One of his best outings of the season came against the Diamondbacks where he allowed just one run and two hits in seven innings while striking out five.

Look for the LA bats to do just enough tonight to get the win.

Game: Boston at Detroit (7:20 PM Eastern)

Pick: Detroit +1.5 runs -120 (runline)

If your gauging this one by reputation, this line makes sense. When you gauge this by what is happening on the field, it does not. The Red Sox are 13-16 on the road while the Tigers have been a top team at home going 15-8. So the only true value can be on Detroit. Josh Beckett is a solid pitcher, but most of that has been earned in the post-season. The fact is Beckett in the last four years pitched great in '07, but in the year prior had a 5.01 ERA and the last two years he has had a 4+ ERA, so he has been more than hittable during the regular season and has allowed more hits than innings pitched this year and has also walked 28. His career numbers vs the Tigers show a 4.15ERA and the Tigers are not getting due respect at home. The Red Sox bats have been very quiet over the last 15 games as they have struggled to produce runs. The Sox have produced three runs or less nine times in their last 15 games, so giving +1.5 runs to the opponent on the road is a pretty high stake. When you factor in the fact they have won four of their 13 road games by a single run, it reduces their road mark to 9-20 against a -1.5 runline. The Tigers are 8-3 in their last 11 at home and would be 9-2 if getting a run and a half. I'll go with the value here and play the Tigers on the runline.

Wednesday Night Bases BEST BET on Mets -107

After back-to-back defeats to Pittsburgh, expect the Mets to bounce back strong tonight. New York has the edge on the mound with Pelfrey as they are 7-2 in his starts this season and 3-1 in his road starts. He has continued to get better and better this season, posting a 2.18 ERA over his last 3 starts while the Pirates' Ohlendorf has struggled over his last three outings, posting a 6.11 ERA. The Mets are 4-0 in Pelfrey's last 4 starts as a favorite and 6-0 in his last 6 starts vs. the National League Central. The Mets are 13-3 in their last 16 games as a favorite and 11-2 in Pelfrey's last 13 starts vs. a team with a losing record. New York is due tonight. Bet the Mets.

Both these clubs are are .500 but more is expected of the Cubs than is of the Braves. Atlanta's future HOF player Chipper Jones is back in the lineup and he's a difference maker. With their new ace on the mound Derek Lowe it's ATLANTA tonight!

    Matchup: Cleveland at Minnesota

    Cleveland at Minnesota

Cliff Lee continues to pitch well for Cleveland without any run support, and we can't see that trend changing tonight. The Indians are falling by the wayside as Cabrera went down yesterday with a separated shoulder. Now without three of their top five hitters Cleveland will have a hard time scoring enough runs to gain Lee the victory. Cleveland has really struggled to hit in this building scoring a total of 24 runs in their last nine games here. The Tribe has dropped 9 of the last 10 games played in the Metrodome yet they are installed as the favorite tonight.

Anthony Swarzak has pitched very well in his first two starts for the Twins. We've watched both games and he has the mannerisms of a veteran. After shutting down Milwaukee and Boston he won't be intimidated by this weak Cleveland lineup.

Minnesota is hitting .301 at home against lefties this season and red hot Joe Mauer is hitting .400 the last three years against Lee. We expect Swarzak to keep the Indian bats at bay as the Twins continue their home dominance over the Tribe.

The Padres have won 17 of their 25 home games. I don't see the Phillies getting the sweep here at Petco Park.

Not with Chris Young on the hill for San Diego.

Young is in excellent form and has been unbeatable at home. He has a 1.89 ERA in his last three outings, including pitching at Coors Field.

At home this season, Young has continued his career-long domination at Petco with a 4-0 mark and 2.25 ERA.

He holds a huge edge over the Phillies' young starter, J.A. Happ. Philadelphia's bullpen also has fatigue issues.

Trap game alert! Trap game alert!

This is ridiculous. Wang, who's ERA is 16.07 for the season, and 34.50 in his last 3 games!!! is a favourite over McCarthy, who's having a respectable season at 4.35, but has been hot lately, having an ERA of 1.64 in his last three.

Sure the Yankees bats are good, but so are the Rangers. The Rangers have the best record in the AL and now I get to put my money on them against Wang and get +154.

USA got drilled last night. Are we ever going to win in San Jose or Azteca?

Here's my MLB card for day games:

Kansas City/Tampa under 8 1/2 or 8 depending on where you "play"

Meche toes the hill against Shields and KC has been getting rocked in Tampa. Lost last night 9-0 (push on total) and lost 6-2 (win on under) with Bannister on the hill. Meche will give the Royals a better chance for the win, but I"m playing the total.

KC's bats have been cold as ice and Shields gives us problems. I really like the first 5 innings under and playing that as well, but a lot of people can't play 1H totals in MLB so let's go for the game.

**Tampa is 4-01 ATS on the under in their last 5 all at home.

**KC is 1-0-1 ATS on the under to start this road trip and 4-0-1 ATS on the under in their last 5 on the road.

**Gil Meche is much better on the road with a 3.38 ERA in 5 starts.

**James Shields is much better at home with a 2.38 ERA In 5 starts.

I like he under today fellas. Soria is back for the Royals and while I expect KC to pull the upset, I think the better play is on the under.

    2** on KC/TB under 8 1/2 (some books listing 8)

    DOG PLAY:

Why wouldn't you play texas? Their pitching has turned the corner and that offense is mashin, and I mean mashin. Chein Meng (I need my head examined) Wang is back to start today and we'll see if he's right on the mound. I don't think so and this is the wrong team to insert him into the lineup. Let's not forget Texas has one of the better back ends in baseball now with converted closer to set up man CJ Wilson and Frank Francisco doing an absolutely great job. Brandon McCarthy has been solid as well and I really do believe Wanger is gonna get drilled today. Texas is playing solid ball, but let's not forget Wanger's ERA before the demotion/injury/visit to the psychologist is a solid 54.00 at home and 28.93 on the road in 3 starts this year.

Lots of pressure on the Wanger and now he faces the smoking bats of Texas??? HHMMM..looks like the pub is still in love with the Yanks. I'll take the great value on the Rangers.

    1* on +155 ML Texas

    Angels @ Jays

Man, Lackey's gotta start pitching well soon right? You feelin me? Since he returned to the Angels rotation he's been pretty bad but this is a good spot to back the Halos in my opinion. Tallet has pitched well this year but is getting no run support in his supporta ALA Matt cain of the Giants. In his last 5 starts he's allowed 4,3,2,4, and 3 runs, but is only 2-2 SU and the Jays lost 3 of those 5. I think the Angels are turning the corner and I feel pretty good that Lackey will turn it around in this start. In 3 starts last year Lackey went 2-1 SU against the Jays and pitched well in all 3 games. A great spot for him to rebound and it's time the Angels made their move out west.

    2** on California Angels -105

Matt Cain has been living in the shadow of Tim Lincecum this season. Cain leads the Giants in wins with six and has a tiny ERA of 2.31 for the season. The strength of the Nationals is their hitting but Cain should keep the Nat’s bats quite. Considering this is game two of a doubleheader I expect the Nat’s bullpen to be shot, look for the Giants to give Cain plenty of run support in this outing as the Giants mop up the Nationals in game two of this twin bill.

2-1 today in MLB +3 units....hit on KC under, hit on Angels, lost on Texas.

    Tonight:

Roll with me on Philly Pick em at LA. I know Clayton Kershaw is toeing the hill but Hamels and the Phils have something to prove tonight. I'm still not sold on that lineup with Manny out. Ethier is slumping, I have it on good authority that O Dog (Orlando Hudson) is out tonight, and I can't see the Dodgers bats getting it done against Hamels, who has been inconsistent this year. However, the Phils bats are still there and Rollins, Utley, and Howard should find some success with Clayton while role players like Ibanez, Victorino, and Werth can be the difference. Think there is great Value on the Phils tonight.

    MC HAMMER PLAY

    ----------------------

Absolutely love the Tampa Bay Drays ML +185....despite how well the Yanks are playing, CC BEEFY hasn't impressed me. He is getting back to form but is still liable to give up a few runs in the hitter friendly Yankee stadium to Tampa. David Price saw his fortunes turn for the better in his last start. He showed lots of improvement and looked more like the Top 5 league prospect he is supposed to be. I see him only getting better tonight despite the Yankee bats...maybe I am wrong here but offering me +185 on David Price is too generous a price, I remember Liriano is his rookie year all the value he was getting early on and I am going to ride the value out with Price for a while as well.

San Francisco Giants @ Florida Marlins

    7:05 PM EST

    Zito/Volstad

    Play: under 8 1/2

    Rating: FREE PLAY--Website/Gotpicks/Newsletter

The Giants are coming off of a sweep of the lowly Natsin yesterday's double header with Cain and the Unit pitching great to take 2 in a row. They come into Florida playing a hot Marlins team (as I wrote on earlier this week) who has an unsung hero, Chris Volstad on the hill. Some numbers first:

**Volstad is 4-4 in 11 starts with an ERA of 4.04.

**Zito is 2-0 lifetime against the Fish with a career ERA of 3.63 in 3 starts against the Marlins.

**In Zito's last 5 starts, they didn't go over 9 once, but did hit 9 in two of the 5 starts.

My logic: Barry Zito is showing signs of the former dominant A's pitcher we watched. His career ERA is still 3.63 and he's had success against this team. We watched Florida take 3 of 4 from the Brewers and absolutely whaled the ball. I don't see them banging tonight and I don't see the Giants killing the ball against a talented Chris Volstad. Especially in the Marlin's huge park. We should get the under this one but the bullpen of Florida might make us sweat. Lindstrom and Nunez have been a little shaky but have gotten it done. The Giants have one of the best closers you've never heard of and if they have the lead, I expect them to hold it. Let's hope Florida takes control and we skip the bottom of the ninth. Might be a tight one, but I expect the under tonight in South Beach.

    Redding vs. Martis

    Rating: Free Play Website/Gotpicks/Newsletter

Guys, something has to give in this game. The nats are 1-8 in their last 9 played, the Mets are 1-4 in their last 5. You look at pitching records and it's a matchup of 5-1 Sharon vs. an awful Tim Redding. I just can't see the Mets losing this one. Omar Minaya brought redding up because he pitched very well in rehab and at the minor league level. Martis has been good, but his ERA is still high. Beltran is back from a stomach virus, Wright is finding his groove, and we should see Redding, who's 2-0 lifetime against the NAts get his first win of the year. Smells like a trap as a doggie but I'm still biting. I like the Mets and the over in this one, but releasing the Mets as a side. Let's roll on the Big apple tonight in the Nation's capital. Sharon lost 7-9 to the Mets earlier this year and I do expect Redding to pitch better tonight. He's 2-0 lifetime with an ERA of 2.57 against the Nats. It's time for him to get that W tonight.

Kansas City at Toronto. I like the Blue Jays on the money line. The Royals are horrendus vs. left handed pitchers and they are on the road. KC has a stud going for them in Greinke but plus one and a half runs with the better team at home is a real bargain. Play the Blue Jays on the money line and see the cashier.

The Giants won't find the going in Florida as easy as they did in Washington. The Marlins have much better pitching, which has been able to hold the Giant lineup in check on the road. Chris Volstad has allowed 12 less hits than innings pitched, and should have no problem controlling the Giant attack, averaging a major league worst 3.3 runs a game on the road. Barry Zito signed a huge contract with the Giants back in '07, but has not lived up to the billing. Zito is 22-36 in a Giant uniform, and that includes 1-6 this season. I'll go with the Marlins, and their 5.4 run a game attack against lefthanders, on the runline

    Matchup: Milwaukee at Atlanta

    Play: Atlanta (ML -118)

    Line Source: SPORTSBOOK

    Posted on: June 5, 2009 @ 12:17:46 PM EDT

After allowing six runs in five innings to the Astros in Houston and losing 6-4, Gallardo allowed a total of two runs in his last two starts, with the Brewers winning 1-0 and 5-2 with both games at home. Here, he is on the road again and we forecast another road defeat. The Brewers are 0-5 their last five when they won the last two games their starter started, losing by final scores of 6-4, 11-3, 6-2, 6-3 and 8-1. That’s an average losing margin of 4.8 runs per game. Ouch.

Yesterday, the Braves were rained out and the Brewers lost 4-3 to the Marlins. Milwaukee was the first to score, but they were impatient at the plate, striking out ten times and drawing a single walk. The Brewers are terrible in this spot. Milwaukee is 3-16 as a dog in the first game of a road series when they are off a loss in which they held the lead and 4-18 on the road when their line is within 20 cents of pickem after a loss in which they drew 1 or fewer walks.

Jurrjens will start today and he has been perfect this season vs an aggressive-hitting team. The Braves are a perfect 5-0 this seasin when he starts as a favorite vs a team that has averaged seven-plus strike outs per game.

While it is true that the Brewers’ record this season is several games ahead that of the Braves, it is also true that the Braves are a perfect 5-0 their last five as a favorite vs team with a better record. Lay the small price.

MLB FRI NITE BEST BET SIDE

    (909) PITTSBURGH (KARSTENS) at (910) HOUSTON (HAMPTON) 8:05 PM

Astros Mike Hampton is a volatile sort. However, the southpaw limited the Pirates to one run in seven innings five days ago, and has a 12-3 career mark (2-0 this year with an ERA south of .75), so a quality start is more likely than not. Especially against a Pirates lineup that is without Nate McClouth (traded to the Braves) and Ryan Doumit (wrist-DL).

Jeff Karstens has issues keeping the ball in the yard, especially outside of pitcher-friendly PNC Park, allowing nearly two home runs per game. His road ERA this year is 5.64 and he's yet to be involved in a decision after four away starts.

Now that the Pirates' only above-average hitter has been shipped out of town, the team becomes a perfect candidate to target spot starters. Hampton limited the team to one run in seven innings five days ago, and while it may be too much to ask for another repeat performance, tonight offers a solid opportunity for Hampton to execute a quality start, resulting in a Houston win.

    Iran vs. North Korea

Play: Iran +`145 to win in 90 minutes (my posted play) or to be safe -130 on 90 minute line.

Fellas, the total is 2 goals. I watched NKA/South Korea and I'll tell ya what, North Korea has no offense to speak of...none. They haven't scored in 3 games and they play decent defense but the speed of Iran is going to be a problem. Iran has lost to Saudia Arabia and China and has to get 3 points in this match. They absolutely, positively have to have a win to consider playing in S. Africa on 2010. North Korea has no shot. This team is garbage.

    1.5* on Iran +145

    1:45 PM CST

    Iceland vs. Netherlands

    Play: Netherlands -1 goal -150

The Orangi are bringing the full compliment. Dirk Kyut, Robbie Van Persie up front, and Mark Van Bommel, along with DeJong in the back. They play attacking ball. If Iceland is smart, they will bunker in but this team has it all, as we saw in Euro 2008. I think Netherlands is a complete team with speed, good strikers, and one of the world's best defensive lines. Even if Iceland plays for the tie, the worst we do is push. But I'm on Netherlands to get critical 3 points in a tough qualifying group.

    2** on Netherlands -150 -1 goal

    10:00 AM CST

    England vs. Kazakstan

    Play: over 3 goals -125

Jesus, even with injuries the English nationals team is a who's who of studs. Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney, Crouch, Barry, Terry. It's a hit squad. I'm excited to see Green in goal as well because he's not their best. Kazi could get 1 but I fully expect England to put the screws to these boys. Capello has the team mentally prepared and after two lackluster performances, no way the boys from England get a 1-0 or 2-0 result. Rooney, Lampard, and Gerrard with a speedy Gareth Barry on the wing will decimate the plodding Kazikstan team and should have plenty of opportunities. Again, we might push at 3-0 but I don't see it. Tie breakers in WC qualifying include goal differential and this is an opportunity for England to rack up the goals. They didn't look good in their last 2 wins and should rock the net at least 4 times on Saturday.

    3*** on England over 3 goals (3 is a push) -125

    South America:

    5:45 PM CST

    Huge Dog alert:

    Chile vs. Paraguay

Play: Chile +270 (a tie is a push)

Paraguay hasn't lost at home yet in WC qualifying. Chile is on a 3 game win streak and traditionally does well against Paraguay. It's a totally different style of futbol then what they play in Europe with lots of attacking and counterattacking. Not the conservative play we see in Europe with build ups. With two speed offenses I think Chile has the slight edge and they definitely have the better keeper. I'm playing on Chile to pull the upset.

    1* on Chile +270

    Colombia vs. Argentina

    4:00 PM CST

    Play: over 3 goals -110

Argentina is coming off an embaressing 7-1 loss to Bolivia. And they fielded their best. Tevez, Messi, and a slew of others left the pitch in Bolivia wondering what the hell happened. Diego Maradona is at the helm of Argentina and he will be pushing his talented team to the limit in this game. Colombia has some weapons up front as well and this game should be a shoot out. Argentina will take the 3 points, but they need to make up that goal differential and they have the talent to do it. Zennetti and Gabriel Heinze join the afore mentioned Tevez and Messi in what should be a brutal attacking formation. Argentina is in 4'th in their qualifying group and are in danger of falling further behind. Albeit, it's early in qualifying, but man, PC says Argentina is going to get after it today and Colombia should be able to get 1 or even 2 on the counter attack against a team that is going to press forward at will. Lionel Messi was quoted as saying: "We have to change the public perception as a world power in futbol. We will leave with 3 points (a win) and leave no doubt about our mastery of goal scoring."

If you follow futbol, you know Messi is one of the world's best. I can't wait to watch these boys get it on.

    2** on Argentina over 3 goals -110

Good luck players..if you like futbol, we got a great day tomorrow, if you don't play some MLB.

    MLB:

I have to advocate we roll over the 9 -115 in KC/Toronto.

Luke Hochevar is supposed to be a can't miss phenom for the Royals but he continues to be garbage when called up. The 2007 first pick in MLB draft, he's been up with the Royals 4 times now. This year, he was supposed to be can't miss, but got drilled in both starts and promptly went back down to Triple AAA as the Royals went to a 4 man rotation. As Hilly and Ron pointed out, the Jays bats at home are monsters and here's an opportunity for BOTH teams to tee off against suspect starters. KC does well on turf fields and the Jays are banging. Hochevar has to pitch well to stay up but this isn't the team to do it against.Richmond pitched a gem against the Royals this year going 7 innings and allowing 2 runs, but I don't see it happening again. He's just not as good as his 4-2 record indicates. I think the Jays will go off and the Royals will get their share.

The Mets are 13-3 in the last 16 meetings against Washington. They are 4-0 in Maine's last 4 starts vs. the Nationals while the Nats are 1-5 in Lannan's last 6 starts vs. the Mets. The Mets are also a perfect 5-0 in Maine's last 5 starts as a favorite while the Nationals are just 7-26 in Lannan's last 33 starts and 0-4 in his last 4 starts as a home underdog. After being swept by the Pirates, the Mets responded with a win in game 1 of this series and I expect them to remain out for blood tonight.

Roy Oswalt has the easiest matchup heading into Saturday's MLB schedule. The Houston ace has a 13-6 career mark and a 2.40 ERA against the now-Nate-McLouth-free Pirates.

Pirates starter Paul Maholm has to be near perfect to keep his team in the game tonight, and his history against the current Astros lineup is solid despite his 5-4 and 4.50 career numbers against Houston. Lance Berkman (3-for-20), Jeff Keppinger (4-for-16), Carlos N. Lee (4-for-26) and Miguel Tejada (2-for-11) have had little success against the Bucs southpaw.

Charlie Reliford is scheduled to call balls and strikes and the veteran umpire continues to expand his strikezone with each passing campaign. Reliford has graded 8 games to the UNDER this year and only 3 to the OVER.

The Cubs continue to struggle at the plate, they only scored two runs last night and half of those runs were provided by Carlos Zambrano the pitcher, who hit a home run. The Cubbies face Matt Maloney a south paw who is making his first start of his career, the good news for Maoney is that that Cubs have been terrible vs. left handed starters only hitting .211vs. them this season.

The Reds should get some production off Ryan Dempster as he is 1-3 in hi sroad starts wthis season with a 4.82 road ERA. The Reds are 7-3 in their last ten games vs. right handed starters at home, look for the offense to wake up tonight.

The Orioles are really struggling on the West Coast. They are 1-3, scoring six runs in four games.

The A's are playing their best ball. Their hitting has really picked up, which is great news for starting pitcher Trevor Cahill. He's pitched well, but hasn't had the run support. Cahill has a 2.84 ERA in his last three starts.

Young Jason Berken is making his third start for Baltimore. He, too, has pitched well, but the A's are swinging the hotter bats, at home and have a more complete book on Berken now that he's already made two big-league starts.

    MC HAMMER PLAY #2 (1-0 +1.80 units)

CINCINNATI REDS ML +105...this one is pretty simple for me. By now everyone knows how I love the young guns because they often offer great value. Maloney is a big leftie and he has great numbers in the minors w/ a 2.00 era this year. Ryan Dumpster was a home pitcher last year and this year he is already 1-3 on the road w/ an era approaching 5. I never for a minute believed in Dempster because lets face it, he is Ryan Dempster! The Cubs record this year is none too spectacular (they SHOULD turn it around) but until then I will go against them. Basic public perception on this game is to bet the cubs at a cheap price (-120ish) with Ryan D. on the mound after his great season last year. However, WRONG!!!! Cinci has some nice hitters and they will get the rook all the support they can tonight. REDS +105 is MC HAMMER #2

GAME: Minnesota Twins @ Seattle Mariners Jun 7, 2009 4:10PM

    SPORT: Major League Baseball Picks

    PICK: Seattle Mariners

    Offered at: -128 Belmont

REASON FOR PICK: The Orioles traded Erik Bedard to Seattle in exchange for five players in February of 2008. Bedard went 40-34 with a 3.83 ERA in just over four full seasons with Baltimore and was particularly good in 2006 and 2007. The Orioles were just 139-185 (.429) in those two seasons but Bedard went 28-16 (.636) with a 3.47 ERA. His .636 winning percentage is quite impressive when compared against Baltimore's overall record of 111-169 (.396) when he didn't get a decision. That's called being a real "difference-maker." Bedard's been impressive in 2009, although he doesn't have all that much to show for it. He's never allowed more than three ERs in any of his 10 starts this year (in EIGHT of 10 it's been two ERs or less), posting a 4-2 record with a 2.37 ERA (team is just 5-5). It would be hard to argue too hard against the statement that over the past month, Erik Bedard has been one of the toughest pitchers in MLB. Minnesota's Kevin Slowey doesn't have much to apologize for in 2009, either. He's 8-1 with a 3.97 ERA in 11 starts this season (team is 8-3), going 4-0 with a 2.41 ERA over his last five starts (Twins are 4-1). These teams have split a pair of 2-1 games Friday and Saturday and the Twins, just 7-17 on the road this year, have a chance to actually take a road series with a win, which would be the team's first series win on the road since late April (24-26 at Cleveland). While Bedard has been pitching great, he's never had any success (or luck) vs the Twins, going 0-5 with a 4.80 ERA in nine lifetime starts vs Minnesota (teams are 2-7). However, check out the Twins' mark this year against lefties, in every situation other than in night home games, where they've gone 8-1 (averaging 6.8 RPG). In home day games vs left-handers, the Twins are 0-2, averaging 1.5 RPG. On the road, they are 0-4 in day games (averaging 1.5 RPG) and at night, 0-4 (averaging 3.3 RPG). So except for in night games at home vs lefties, the Twins are 0-10 vs lefties in all other situations, averaging 2.2 RPG. Take Bedard and Seattle.

GAME: Rockies (RL) @ Cardinals (RL) Jun 7, 2009 2:15PM

    SPORT: Major League Baseball Picks

    PICK: Rockies (RL)

    REASON FOR PICK:

    FREE PLAY

The Rockies look to put up double digit runs in their fourth straight game on Sunday as they play game three of their four game series in St. Louis. Colorado has easily taken the first two in this series by a combined score of 21-5 and they now send Ubaldo Jimenez to the hill where he is 3-6 with a 4.11 ERA this season. He is coming off a road start in Houston where he gave up just one run in six innings. Jimenez faced the Cardinals twice last season and St. Louis is hitting just .231 with Khalil Greene (2-12), Skip Schumaker (0-5), Jason LaRue (0-2), and Chris Duncan (0-2) all struggling against the righty.

Going for St. Louis is Joel Pineiro who is 5-5 with a 3.86 ERA this season. He has lost two straight decisions, falling to Kansas City and at San Francisco. Pineiro only lasted four innings against the Giants, giving up six hits and four runs in that game. Colorado has not been friendly to him as he is 1-0, but has a terrible 7.36 ERA against them. Last year he faced them in Colorado and only managed to go three innings, giving up eight hits and three earned runs. The Rockies hit .500 against him with Brad Hawpe (4-5), Todd Helton (2-4), Yorvit Torrealba (1-2), Clint Barmes (1-2), and Chris Ianetta (2-2) doing the best in limited at-bats. The righthander has also dealt with back spasms this season which could be an issue today.

    SPORT: Major League Baseball Picks

    PICK: San Francisco Giants

    Offered at: -141 5Dimes

REASON FOR PICK: Play On: San Francisco w/Lincecum vs Nolasco

Note: The Giants and Marlins meet in Game Three of this four hame series when Tim Lincecum takes on Ricky Nolasco at Landshark Stadium this afternoon. Lincecum checks into today contest in commanding KW form where he has issued 7 walks against 44 strikeouts in his last five road starts. Meanwhile, Nolasco was recently called up from the minors after going 2-4 with a 10.37 ERA in his previous six starts. Back the better arm as the Giants improve to 13-4 on Sundays here today.

The Philadelphia Phillies are coming off two very disappointing losses in the city of angels at the hands of the Dodgers. Yesterday the Dodgers tied the game in the ninth inning and eventually earned victory in the 12th off an Andre Ethier homerun. Brad Lidge has two blown saves in as many days and is probably not available Sunday to close out victory for the Phillies. Antonio Bastardo gets the start for the Phillies making his second career start after pitching six strong innings in San Diego to win his major league debut. I look for the Phillies to be out for blood in this contest and get a lot of runs on the board early so they don't blow a lead in the ninth inning for the third straight game. Take the Phillies.

    For all you rednecks:

I like Denny Hamlin +700 to win the Pocono 500 today. Denny always runs very well here and he was thequickest in practice. Alos this, week, he had some issues with his crew chief and it seems like adversity breeds success in this sport.

    MC HAMMER PLAY #3 (2-0 +2.85 units)

PHILLY/LAD NO SCORE 1st inning -125....this will be a quick wager for me tonight. Don't love this game but I do like this kid Bastardo (like his name as well as his game). LAD has never seen him before and he won't have jitters as it is his 2nd game (he was great in his 1st one). On the other side we have Randy Wolf who has an absolutely SICK opp BA against lefties (utley + howard + ibanez maybe) of 0.085 , He will hold them for an inning.

    Futbol: 2-2-1 +1.7 units

MLB: 6-2 ATS (lost Royals over on Friday)

NBA: 1-0 ATS, hit on Orlando under Game 1

    Tonight:

I like the Dodgers to win this exciting series. My service play is on the total but LA has a dominant Randy Wolf going against Uber prospect Antonio Bastardo. The Phils bullpen has failed them twice in what has been one of the best series of the year between two teams. Should be a very good game but I think Wolf will get it done for us tonight. If not, the backend with Broxton will shore up a close game and insure the victory.

    2** on LA Dodgers

    WEC Featherweight championship:

Mike Brown vs. Urijah (the california kid) Faber

I think Faber is the best featherweight I have ever seen. Brown is tough as nails and looked great in beating Faber and defending his title against Leonard Garcia. I have to roll on Faber in this one. He is a special fighter and has the ability to win in a variety of ways. I'm not taking anything away from Brown, who totally deserved the first fight win and is a solid, solid, fighter. However, with that being said, Faber got caught being "cute" with a flying backhand elbow and got dropped by the hard hitting brown. Should be a 5 round war but I'm taking Faber to win this one big.

4**** on Urijah Faber -110 (show is on 8:00 PM CST on VS)

Upset special: I'll put one unit on Cub Swanson +270 who hasn't lost a fight since Jens Pulver destroyed him. Very good value on this kid who has complete tool kit. He won't get knocked out, maybe submitted (by arm bar in my opinion if it happens) but I see Cub standing as much as possible and he's a strong fighter and should be able to stuff the takedowns. He has publicly stated he won't go to the ground unless forced to do so and he should eke out a decision standing.

1* on Cub Swanson (WEC on VS at 8:00 PM CST)

DETROIT/CHISOX OVER 9.5 -105 game 1....some afternoon ball for me today. TONS of stats pointing to the under based on these teams past 20 games but don't be fooled. Armando Gallaraga has been brutal all year, his road ERA is even worse and his stats against chicago in his career are brutal not to mention his last game agaisnt them he got rocked as well. Clayton Richard has been decent as of late but his last game wasn't good. Detroit has great hitters and can fill the scoreboard, and they hit .281 against lefties....If they get to the bullpen they will bring the rain and pour on the runs. I think Detroit takes this but the better play imo is the OVER 9.5 -105.
