This game has 'over' written all over it. Oakland's Sean Gallagher didn't show much in his first start of the season, a 6-4 loss. Joe Niemann is 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA in a pair of home assignments this year. The 'over' has cashed in five straight games for the A's. The 'over' is on a 7-2-1 run for the Rays. Give me the 'over' here.

**9** MLB DARK HORSE DANDY ***100% YTD*** The Diamondbacks and Braves were rained out on Sunday and now it is Colorado heading to Atlanta to start its series with the Braves. I was on Arizona yesterday and will be on Colorado tonight for many of the same reasons as the similarities are almost uncanny. Colorado is no doubt having its struggles and surprisingly it is coming on offense where it has scored four runs or fewer in eight of its last 10 games. It has had success against tonight’s opposing pitcher so this could be the spot to get things rolling again. The Rockies have been below average on the road, going 7-12 outside Colorado but the Braves are just 6-10 at home this season and I am a firm believer that a team sitting right around .500 (Atlanta is right at .500) should not be large favorites unless there is a significant edge in the starting pitching matchup which is not the case here. Derek Lowe was a good pick up for the Braves there is no question but is having a couple problems this season. He is 5-1 with a very good 3.80 ERA but his WHIP sits at 1.33 and that is his largest ratio since 2004. It gets worse when looking at his last three outings where it is at 1.47 and at home where it is 1.91. Allowing baserunners is exactly what the Rockies need during their recent struggles. Lowe is 7-6 with a 4.70 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 16 career starts against the Rockies. Jason Marquis counters for Colorado and hew is coming off easily his worst start of the season. He allowed nine runs in just 3.2 innings against the Astros making it two straight non-quality outings after putting together four quality performances in his first five starts. His ERA was a solid 3.31 through those first five starts so he was having a very successful start to the season. His lone non-quality outings during that stretch came against the Diamondbacks where he allowed six runs but bounced back with a solid outing against the Dodgers in a 10-4 win. Marquis has a 3.43 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in three road starts this season. The Braves are 2-9 in their last 11 games as a home favorite and 0-5 in their last five home games against a right-handed starter. Colorado is 4-1 in its last five series openers and it falls into a very solid contrarian situation as well. Play against National League favorites with a moneyline of -110 or higher with a starting pitcher whose ERA is 3.70 to 4.20 on the season going up against an opponent with a starting pitcher whose ERA is 5.20 to 5.70 on the season. This situation is 23-11(67.6 percent) over the last three seasons and as an underdog situation, it is even better than what that percentage indicates. 9* Colorado Rockies

At 8:15 pm our selection is on the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals 'under' the total. The first game of this important series was rained out on Friday evening and so now the game will be made up tonight on what was originally an off-day. Brewer manager Ken Macha could have used ace Yovani Gallardo in this make-up game, but he instead opted to move Braden Looper up so he could start against his former team. Lately, it doesn't really matter who pitches for either of these teams when they meet as the runs have been few and far between. In fact in the last eight meetings of these two division rivals the under is 5-2-1. And all of these eight contests took place in Busch Stadium -- the site of tonight's make-up. The Redbirds' veteran starter Kyle Lohse was scheduled to start the Friday game and although technically he did go to the mound on that night, he only threw 30 pitches in two innings before the rains came. So the Cards will treat that as a bullpen session for Lohse and send him back out tonight to face a team that he did fairly well against in 2008. The alternative would be to pitch him against the Cubs, a team which Lohse struggled against last season. Either way, Lohse should be happy to take the mound at home where he is 3-1 with a 3.20 ERA in four starts so far in 2009 (vs. 0-1 and 5.82 on the road). Look for Looper to bounce back against his former team after getting roughed up a bit in his last two starts. Take the 'under'.

The Angels look to bounce back after dropping all three games in Texas over the weekend, as the Halos head to Seattle to battle the Mariners. The M's are coming off a walk-off win over the Red Sox on Sunday, taking two of three from Boston. John Lackey will make his season debut, again, tonight. Lackey was ejected after throwing only two pitches in Saturday's loss to the Rangers, so the righty will start in place of Matt Palmer, who will be pushed back to Tuesday. Lackey has had great success at Safeco Field over the years, with the Halos winning six of his last seven starts in Seattle dating back to 2005. The Angels are 10-2 since the start of the 2006 season on the road off a three-game losing skid. Jarrod Washburn has struggled against his former team, as the M's lefty has dropped four of his last five starts against L.A. Seattle has lost Washburn's last four starts, with the Mariners scoring only eight runs, while the Angels lit up Washburn the last time they faced the lefty, tallying six runs and eight hits in his five innings of work in an 8-0 shutout. I'll back the Angels to end their skid and get Lackey his first win of the season.

Not going to over-think this one too much. The Brewers are coming off a three-game sweep of the Cardinals, and are playing their best baseball of the season, winning 12 of their past 14. Dave Bush, who has historically struggled on the road, has put up quality starts in each of his two road outings this season, while facing two pretty solid lineups in the Mets and Phillies. Bush is going deeper into games, by pitching at least seven innings in four of his last five starts, while putting up a nice 18/1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his last three starts. Mike Hampton was lit up by the Brewers last time he faced Milwaukee in late April. Hampton allowed eight hits and 4 ER in 6 IP, but received a no-decision as the Crew won in extra-innings. Milwaukee has won their last eight series openers, while Houston is 3-10 this season in Game 1's. I'll back the Brewers to continue their hot streak and beat the Astros.

Cliff Lee was dominant over the Royals last season posting a 5-0 record and a 2.63 ERA en route to his Cy Young award. Brian Bannister may be on the way to claiming that award this season. The righty spots a 1.80 ERA and should have success against the Indians today. Bannister is 4-1 lifetime against Cleveland with a 1.62 ERA.
Two solid pitchers will give us our 'under.'

A.L. Blowout of the Week on Tigers -153
Detroit’s bats are on fire, scoring 6.8 runs per game at home, and an impressive 5.4 against lefty starters. Harrison has been great for the Rangers, but I expect the solid southpaw hitting Tigers to have his number tonight. You hear plenty about the Rangers' bats, but they are only scoring 4.4 runs per game on the road this season. They face Justin Verlander tonight, who has regained his ace stuff. Verlander is 2-0 with a 0.95 ERA at home. Detroit has won all 4 meetings against Texas this season. To my earlier point, the Tigers are 7-1 in their last 8 home games vs. a left-handed starter. The Rangers are 0-5 in the last 5 meetings overall and 1-10 in the last 11 meetings in Detroit. The Tigers are 4-0 in Verlander's last 4 starts vs. the Rangers, 4-0 in Verlander's last 4 home starts, and 13-4 in Verlander's last 17 starts vs. the American League West. Take the Tigers.

Granted, Phil Hughes is probably the least-reliable of the Yankees' starting pitchers, and is likely due a demotion back to the bullpen as soon as Chien Ming-Wang returns from a rehab assignment at AAA. But he's only one piece of a much bigger Yankee puzzle that is starting to come into focus. The Bronx Bombers have won 6 in a row and have scored 16 runs their last two games, all bad news for the visiting Orioles and starter Jeremy Guthrie tonight at the new Yankee Stadium.
The thought persists that the O's are ready to embark upon a steep decline, reinforced by sluggish efforts in their last two games, losses vs. the Royals and last night to the Yanks, collecting just 7 hits total in those defeats. Meanwhile, Guthrie, the "ace" of the Baltimore rotation, has been touched up for a 5.21 ERA this season, and the Oriole bullpen is not likely to provide the sort of support that the New York relievers can offer Hughes. The Yankees have won five straight over the O's in the Bronx, and if current form holds, are well worth laying the extra run for the preferred price tonight. Play NY Yankees on Run Line

The Chicago Cubs send Sean Marshall to face the St. Louis Cardinals, and Adam Wainwright. There is a lot going for the Cubs in this one. Marshall has outpitched Wainwright over each pitcher's last 3 starts bt a run and a half, and Marshall owns a better career ERA vs the Cards, as does Wainwright vs the Cubs by nearly a 2 run margin. Factor in the fact that the Cards offense has been stymied by lefthand pitching all season, where they are plating just just 3.8 runs a game, ranked 26th in all of baeseball. The Cubs are getting over 5 runs a game vs righthanders on the season. The Cubs have been great closing out a series as they are 20-7 in game 3 of a series. I'm going with the Cubs here.

Mariners have lost 11 of their last 15 games. Their starter today, Erik Bedard, has struggles physically and missed his last scheduled outing. Joe Saunders has had his way with the Mariners. He’s 5-1 in 8 career starts, and is 3-0 in 4 outings at Safeco Field. Angels rebound after being shutout last night.

The Red Sox come into this set with big momentum off an impressive sweep of Toronto. Johan Santana is awesome for the Mets. But he is off his worst start of the year, and Santana has struggled badly at Fenway, with a 1-3, 6.89 ledger. The Red Sox are an amazing 39-15 in Interleague play the last three seasons and Dice-K looked sharp in a pair of rehab starts. There's no way I can pass up the Red Sox as home dogs here, and this is pure value on the Boston side at the price.

The Pirates have a better record than the Sox, but Pittsburgh is 14-32 as an underdog vs a team that has a worse record and the Sox are 65-33 as a favorite vs a team that has a better record.
Gavin Floyd’s last three starts have all been on the road. In his last outing, the Sox lost 8-2 to Roy Halladay in Toronto. Chicago supports their starter famously in this situation, going 29-10 as a favorite when they scored two or fewer runs for their starter in his last start and an amazing 18-4 as a favorite when they lost the last two games their starter started.
The Pirates have won Zach Duke’s last two starts and he went 7+ innings in each. This is actually the kiss of death for the Pirates. Pittsburgh is 0-15 when Zach Duke starts as a road dog when they Pirates won his last start. Also, Pittsburgh is 0-9 when Zach Duke starts on the road after the team won his last two starts. Yow.
Yesterday, the White Sox were annihilated 20-1 by Minnesota. Chicago is 20-7 as a home favorite after a loss and it is the first game of the series, 21-7 at home when they are off a loss in which they never led and 31-10 as a favorite after a loss in which they allowed 12+ hits.
With the Pirates 0-5 as a dog after a loss in which they had 6 or fewer hits, we’ll lay the short number.

My plays for Friday and one futbol for saturday:
Friday night West Coast MLB:
Take the under in Zona. The Dbacks have gone over ONCE all year on the road. I've been riding this cash cow all year. They just simply don't score on the road. Oakland's pitching is very underrated and I don't care who's on the hill, this game looks like an easy under.
2**
The the over in San Diego/Cubs. Peavy vs. Zambrano with a total of 6 1/2. I have both on my fantasy teams. Big Z is on a strict pitch count and Peavy just nixed the White Sox deal. Both pitchers ERA is higher than you would expect. I think this game is a solid over play. Even in the cavern that is petco.
3***
Futbol:
I'm all over the over 3 in Villareal tomorrow in La LIga (Spain.) Could be the last game for David Villa at home and they are two of the few teams that are playing for something. (A spot in next year's EUFA Champion's league.) I expect at least 4 goals and probably more like 6. I could go on about this game, but not a lot of futbollers on GP.
2** over 3 -105

Tonight, I'm postin NBA play in the Nba forum and UFC in the UFC forum.

ROLL WITH ME ON CLEVELAND +100.
You guys remember Home Bailey? The Homer with loads of talent who has gotten sent down each of his first 3 years in the bigs? Some guys just can't handle the pressure and I see it again tonight. Cleveland's bats are big and their offense is loaded. They bring their own rookie, David Huff to the hill and I think he has the moxie to get us the win in a slug fest tonight in Ohio.

adding the under in the Battle of LA.
Wolf has been amazing and Lackey is yet to get in the groove but he should tonight against a Dodgers attack that lacks punch without Manny. Ethier has been terrible, Orlando hudson has lacked punch and the rest of the lineup isn't doing much. For the Angels, they have some talented hitters, but Vlad is out, Bobby is hurt but might be available, and the rest are slap hitters. Don't look at Wolf's record, look at his ERA and innings pitched. The guy has been an absolute monster.

For all of you rednecks out there, its worth looking at Tony Stewart +1200 or Ryan Newman +1000 to win the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowes. Tony won the All-Star race last weekend at this same track and his teammate Newman is starting on the pole. Tony's new team is starting to run very well and he's got something to prove after leaving Gibbs. Both of these guys are running Hendricks engines which have proven to be the best in the business.

I'm riding with the Bus yet again, I agree Tak-o but didn't look at it until I saw your post:
I'm not a hockey guru but I'll take the Red Wings anytime, anywhere, expecially with takis throwing GOY status on it:
For ME:
Marlins -102
Listed must go:
Johnson/Shields
In the annual battle of Florida the Rays have smoked the Fish twice now. I can't see them sweeping with the Fish ace Johnson on the hill. I still think James Shields is a 1 hit wonder, as in he had 1 good season for the Rays. Johnson is the real deal and the Marlins should win this one going away in my opinion.
2** on Florida -102 as the slight underdog
Nailed futbol two weekends in a row for +6 units in Europe. Went 0-1-1 yesterday in USA foots, here's my card this morning and afternoon:
Arsenal/Stoke City over 3 -110....2**
Two offenses that can score and they are both safe in position. Arsenal will be in the champions league. Stoke stayed up in their first year of the EPL.
10:00 AM CST
Newcastle +135...2** (tie is a push)
Huge game for NewCastle and their fans. If Newcastle doesn't win this game, they will get relegated and if you know anything about English futbol, it's tatamount to the Yankees getting sent to Triple AAA baseball. They are an institution in English futbol and to have fallen this far is simply unacceptable. English and Newcastle legend Alan Shearer will at least tie this game against Villa.
10:00 AM CST
Man United/Hull -125 a tie is a push
United will sit all their starters, but they will still have a lot of talent on the pitch. I also think Sir Alex wants a win to end the the regular season going into their huge Champions league final against FC Barcelona on Wednesday. Hull has talent, but Man U will play to win.
2**

La Liga:
I'm taking the under 3 in Mallorca/Real Madrid. Madrid is playing for nothing what so ever and will bring out their reserves. Mallorca would love a tie or win against Spain perennial power Real Madrid. Should be a boring game but I'll take 3 goals or under in this one

Sherlock, forgot about the futboller up north.
Man, good luck on Hull, but I don't see it. I see your argument on Boro and Sunderland, but Boro needs to score a bunch of goals and needs help. Chelsea will field about a 1/4th of their starters in the other game, but man, I just don't see Hull getting a split with their recent run of form. Man U's second team should be able to take care of them. With that being said, we'll probably both push$$$
Can't wait, relegation AKA Survival Sunday is one of the best days in the EPL. Only wish they spaced out the time of games so we could watch more than one live.
Enjoy the games man, should be a great day in England!

Got the over in Cavs game pending.
Sherlock, I really like Barcelona, but not in 90 minutes. I think they have the defense to play Ronaldo and Rooney. I will wait to see the lineups. If Berbatov starts and Tevez plays in a 3 up front, I would go United, but if they go with their traditional 2 up front with Rooney and Ronaldo, I'm hammering FC Barcelona to advance. I found an interesting angle, when Barcelona plays teams that start 1 striker or 2 strikers, they are 10-0-3 on the year. When teams apply heavy pressure up front, 3 wide, they are 4-4-1 ATS in 90 minutes. Sir Alex hasn't let out his lineup yet, so I'll wait until Wednesday. With the game being in Rome, we should see a neutral home field advantage. Wish you were in PCB and we could watch that together.
Take care, don't sweat EPL, goofy day. Hell, Man City was lined at 3 on the total and a lot of the games were way off the number. I still can't believe Newcastle is in the Coca Cola league next year. It will be interesting to see if they can advance with some talented teams rollin in the championship. QPR and Sheff. Wednesday and Reading should give them all they can handle.
We got one week left in Europe with UEFA, FA cup, and Serie A and la Liga. Then it's all MLS til August. Let's bang next week.

GP Plays:
Atlanta -1 1/2 +115 over San Fran.
Jesus you guys know I hate run lines, I mean hate em. But I have been watching Javier Vazquez all year and the man has been an animal. I think he's one of the better pitchers in the NL this year and he's getting it done big time for the Bravos. The one knock is he has one bad inning, but man, San Fran is not a team that can light you up 8 batters deep. I really think Atlanta and the hot hitting Brian McCann are absolutely gonna work San Fran today. Did I mention Jonathan O Sanchez has been terrible this year? He's not a bad pitcher but his head isn't right. I follow MLB strong and JOS is NOT the pitcher us fantasy ballers are accustomed to seeing. Just don't see how San Fran can get the W today unless Vazquez implodes in a pitcher's park like San Fran's.
2** on San Fran +115

At 6:05 pm our selection is on the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Indians 'over' the total. It's Memorial Day and that means it's time to pay tribute to the fallen so perhaps it's appropriate that we look at this game between two teams who have both fallen rather hard from their successful campaigns in 2008. The Indians and Rays were a combined 178-146 in 2008 and Tampa made its first-ever trip to the World Series. But about 1/4 of the way through the 2009 season and these two teams are a combined 40-51 with Cleveland in the cellar of the AL Central and the Orioles the only thing keeping Tampa out of the same spot in the East. Certainly the Rays have plenty of excuses, most of them in the form of players on the DL, including their closer (Percival), LF (Burrell), 2B (Iwamura), and ace starter Scott Kazmir. It's the latter one that opens the door (finally) for #1 prospect David Price who will get the start tonight in this game. Price pitched OK at AAA Durham with a 3.93 ERA, but only had one win in eight starts, no doubt due to poor run support. It is unlikely he will have that problem tonight as despite all the injuries, the Rays have been scoring runs in bunches lately. In fact, 11 of Tampa's last 13 games have gone over the total. Cleveland is on a similar streak, putting up plenty of runs and having plenty of runs scored against it. Seven of the Indians last 10 games have gone over, and tonight's starter Fausto Carmona just can't seem to get his form back and it's starting to look more and more like his excellent 2007 season was nothing more than a fluke. Take the 'over.'

4-Unit Play Take #980 Los Angeles Angels over Chicago White Sox (9:05pm.)
Like the moxy of this Angels team. They are so resilient. Erwin Santana is making his second start of the season, and Vlad returns to the lineup today. This home stand brings in the White Sox and Mariners for three a piece. If the Rangers should falter, we could see the Angels in first place by this time next week. It is fun to watch Scioscia manage.
His team should dominate a so-so CWS club.
