Unfortunately that two for one shot didn’t work out so well last Thursday as we took a bullet on the Air Force game. The Falcons certainly had their chances but couldn’t convert turnovers into touchdowns, settling for field goals. That will always allow teams to hang around and steal wins on the road and that’s just what Navy did. Oh well, 4-1 isn’t such a bad way to begin the season and we’ll just have to start a new streak this week.
What an interesting game we have this Thursday as get a chance to look at the new and improved ACC. Of course, Clemson and Virginia are anything but new to the ACC but as I’m sure you know, Miami and Virginia Tech have joined the league with Boston College set to come aboard next season. The end result should be that the traditionally basketball-heavy conference will now be able to trade football blows with any conference in the land.
Virginia appears to be ready for the battle as they are off to a stellar 4-0 start. In fact, no team has come within 20 points of the Cavaliers this season and their average margin of victory is 33 PPG.
The boys from Charlottesville, VA have been a bit of a surprise this season in that everyone expected them to be very sound defensively but no one quite expected the offensive output this team has generated. That’s due in large part to the graduation of quarterback Matt Schaub, currently the understudy to Michael Vick in Atlanta. Schaub was the mastermind of the Virgina offense for the past couple of seasons and many speculated his departure would be the biggest cloud hanging over the Cavs this season.
