Pats/Steelers

-12.5??

You gotta love the spot the Steelers are in. The Pats have shown in the last two games that they are not untouchable. They left the last two games with narrow victories against mediocre opponents.

Now, we have the Steelers. I hope Palomalou and Holmes are both active this weekend. I'd hate to see the Pats get another freebie (a la Indy/Harrison).

Here's are some factors I see that have brought the Pats back down to Earth.

Weather. Although their running game is Ok, the Pats have relied heavily on the passing attack to Welker and Moss (and a side of Stallworth). The cold weather has brought a reliance on the running game. this is keeping teams closer, preventing blow-outs.

Age. Although very good, I've noticed Brusci, Vrable and Seau are not as fast as earlier in the year. I think weather and wear-down contributes to this. This is why Philly and Ravens were able to score on NE. Balt averaged 16 ppg before last night. They only scored 24, but it could have been more. For the first time in a couple of months, Balt's offence looked pretty good. Did I mention Boller looked good? Boller!

Experience. The Steelers now have two games to examine to see how to beat the Pats. I think this will help this weekend. Remember, Philly and Balt are average teams this year, and they made the Pats look average.

Like it or not (BigMessy), the writing is on the wall here. The Steelers have a very legitimate shot of winning this game and now, we get 12.5 points. I might add a half unit on the ML as well.

  1. Thats funny....Another freebie???? Steelers moneyline huh? If you actually believe they will lose, then yes put it on the ML...I was thinking of putting some money on the ML against the Pats the rest of the year just in case...But, I do not see them losing. You may find a better advantage taking the points if you truly believe that the Pats have been figured out! As far as experience....well, watching the Pats doesnt give the Steelers any experience!

Good Luck...but for everytime I hear I am a loser for being a homer....I think of how much the haters are losing!!!

  2. BTW, if you are going to play Pitt you better hurry up because I do not see the line higher than 11 anywhere right now!!! Let it keep going down!! Hope the Steelers come better prepared than they did vs the 2-8 J-E-T-S!!!

  3. Be careful in this spot, this may just be where the pats turn back into the ATS machine. Everyone is painfully aware NE didn't come close to covering the past 2 games, against mediocre to bad teams.

I'm sure a team with the reputation & defense of Pitt + 2 TD's is going to get a lot of action. Could be a buzzsaw rolling back the other way.

  12. Bill Simmon's a writer on ESPN and a die hard Boston sports fan, writes this in his column.

    Steelers (+10.5) over PATRIOTS

Adam from Indy writes, "Congrats! You and the rest of New England are rooting for the '04 and '05 Colts: record-breaking offense, iffy defense and no running game. The Colts, on the other hand, have had some tough losses, a great running game, a physical defense and they're completely out of the spotlight. Sound familiar?"

(Um ... yes ... yes, it does ...)

  13. On another note, if the AFC championship were held today (Indy @ NE), what do you think the spread would be.

    I think -7 pats

  14. I DO believe the Patriots will win the Superbowl. An Indy-Pats showdown in Foxboro would make for a great game on the Road to the Championship but I would be lying if I didnt admit that I would like to see the defending Superbowl champs eliminated prior to that!!

Shit talking aside, The PAts have the weapons, are focused and most importantly are having fun! They will have Home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Whether or not a "blueprint" actually exists for how to defend the Pats, the question is, who has the resources to do so??

Now, a better question is....Will the PAtriots cover the rest of the way and Will they cover in the SuperBowl!!!??!!

  15. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I sure hope that the BoSox sing Santana, and well maybe the Pats can sign Tomlinson, and shit while we are at it the Bruins could use Crosby. I wish I could move to Boston and be able to walk around with my dick hangin out....wait no I don't I hate the smell of fish.

Congrats fellas on a hell of a run for your city.

  16. Hilly, maybe the Celtics can work out a deal for Steve Nash! Early line on the Pats/Jets game is 24 1/2. Unless the weather is a factor, the Pats will try to win this game by 50!!!
