Yet another soccer tournament. I've been playing it, but waiting as we are almost out of the group stage.

I haven’t really been keeping up, but making one play (for now) on Euros.
Spain to win Group D, 4:5
May also play Team Deutschland to win it all at 19-5. Their Group (B) is on the same side as A. A little easier I think than the C/D with Italy, France, Netherlands, Spain. Croatia, Portugal OK, but seems like less depth on this side. Czechs are in this side too, I haven’t been following anyone (how playing, injuries), but them at 22-1 seems not bad as I feel they are in the weaker of the two halves and have one of the best keepers in the world, if not the best. Germany could see them in quarters. Gotta decide soon on Germany.

4-0 in the Euro cup so far. Granted, Germany was a heavy favourite.
Only one pick today.
France -112. 3 units. This line confuses me, but I'll jump on this. Romania has been improving, but France will win this. they should!
Italy/Netherland should be a good one. With Italy's great defence, this should be low. This game could finish 0-0. Under is a two, so I'll stay away. I put a small wager on the tie.

Guys, I dont post alot in soccer but I watch your plays and have some oponions, mostly keep to my self because i dont feel I can call my self a capper in soccer. I played a parly mostly with the favorites and its coming to play tomorrow. I really like spain game and feel comfortable that will hit. But what about my Greece play. think hedging is in order but by how much.. I'm not trying to gloat so please dont call me out. just looking for feedback, if you dont care, sorry you had to read this,

My opinion as a gambler:
Risking 100.00 to win 1900.00
First legs are in..just one play left.
Risk 100.00 on draw line (unless it's a push if they tie)
Risk 300.00 (to pay 450ish) on Sweden ML
Results:
Greece Wins:
+1800 on Parley
- 400.00 on Hedge
Total profit 1400.00
If Sweden wins..you at least get paid 250ish after investment.
I still like Greece...Sherlock, you've been riding favs and Sweden has some serious offensive woes. Will probably be a draw but I can't see Sweden beating the defending champs. Greece did very well in qualifying and they have most of the pieces intact from their last title run.
The total is set at 2 so you know it's gonna be a defensive battle. We'll see how it plays out. I had the Dutch yesterday but that doesn't mean shit because I didn't post it. I got some more "against the grain" tomorrow. Czech game I am very looking forward to. Will Cech pull a Tim Howard and stop everything in sight?

PC, I'm on the favourites, but early in this competition, I think it's a good play.
For tomorrow:
I really like Portugal in this tourney and nothing I saw from the first game will change my opinion. I'm not playing the line because I don't like the tie possibility on this one.
Over 2 +104 Portugal is prone to letting goals, but I definately see them scoring on this czech team. Yes, the czech Defence is stifling, but they were up against some softies in qualifying. In both games against Germany in qualifying, 3 goals were scored. I see a minimum of two goals for a push.
I'm not sure about the late game. My lean is on Turkey. I think they have it in them. The Swiss looked pretty good against a strong Czech team in the first game, but they lost their Captain.
I think there is value on Turkey +237

nice hit on Sweden..I still think Greece was the play but didn't see it and from what I read, they were flat.
On to today:

I"m on over 2 for 2 units in Portugal
Tough to go against the Portuguese, but I'm laying off the side. Still think they win but won't risk 157 juice on it.
In the other game, I love the Czech republic to go over the 2 goals. TUrkey is very underrated (see Fenerbache's magical run in the Champions League) and they have scored in the Euro qualifying quite a bit.

7-1 on Euro so far.
I can't go against Germany here. Croatia has trouble scoring, as we saw in the first match against Austria. Their only goal was a penalty kick and they were badly outshot. Germany can score in bunches, and even if Croatia does score, I can see Germany getting a 2-1 win, but my prediction is 2-0.
Germany -136
I'm not sold on Poland. They don't have a very good Defence. Austria showed in their last match that they can compete against a good team. Plus, I see the home crowd and the added motivation from their loss to really be on their side.

The Germans have the best offense in the championship. I expect Ballack and Schweinsteigger to get on the board today.

Agree with Sherlock. Poland is hurting as evidenced by the 2-0 loss to US on homesoil last month and their lackluster showing in game 1. One home team (Suisse) has been knocked out, this is the last chance for a host team. This is a game they can win and I expect a good battle.

Wow..Friday is a huge day in the Group of Death.
I'm on my way to the College World Series with Como so I'll be taking a break from Euro08 unless I get a chance to post.
Friday Euro for PC:
1.) Netherlands ML in 90 minutes. France is in trouble fellas. No disrespect to Romania but jesus they are done son. Henri has been garbage in La Liga and the French had very little offensive flow in the Romania game. I think they will score, but the Netherlands looked great against Italy and in my opinion, Italy is better than France.
Netherlands +145 for 2 units
2.) Netherlands over 2 goals -105
At worst we push but Ruud and the Netherlands looked great. Will they keep it up? I don't know but the Dutch were the only ones to score in this group on matchday 1. Surely the French will get one in the net against a team not normally known for bunker in defense. The Dutch are a forward attacking team with a great keeper and a great striker. I think this one is easy money.

3.) Italy under 2 -110
Azzuri? I call em schemps. Jesus they are overrated and they might lose outright to Romania who is no slouch. You put Romania in almost any other group and they would be favored to advance, but not with the 3 powerhouses. However, they have to think they can steal a point with a tie and if this is the strategy, they will bunker in and look to counter against the Italians, who are supposedly one of the best defensive teams in the world. Should be a brilliant match of defense, but I'm going under.

Two picks today.
Swiss/Port U 2.5 -110 I see this being low scoring. The Swiss play a defensive style and Port has already won their group. Port will not risk anything and who knows who they'll start. 3 units
Czech +130. The czechs have looked good so far. I don't know if Turkey will score on them. I really like this play. units

As much as it hurts, I'm playing Portugal +110. I just think Germany has too much going against them: Frings is questionable with a fractured rib, LuLu (who has 3 of their 4 goals) has an injured calf, Gomez couldn't hit water if he fell off a boat, I'm still not sold on Lehmann being a top-notch GK, Klose has basically been invisible, Coach Yogi won't be on the sideline (which is a joke), Portugal is rested, not sure if revenge is a factor at all from '06 consolation. This is more a play against Deutschland as they just haven't looked good. I'd be willing to be wrong here as I'm up with Spain winning Group D.
Curious what shelock and PC think. Right now 2 units for me, may throw half unit on the draw line (90 minutes).

I'm with you on Port. I really liked Germany going into this tournament. (in fact, I liked both Port and Germ, so I hate this matchup). But, Germany has not showed a lot of character so far. Port has really clicked and if you watched the game, it seems they're all on the same page. I can't say the same about Germany.

Germany up 3-1. I can't believe I even considered fading Germany. I had two people send me emails saying Portugal wins this game.
All I gotta say is...
Klose, Padolski, Ballack, Schweine, Lehman..this team from top to bottom has more quality than anyone in the tournament.

1-1 for a small profit for me. Great game. Germany pulled it all together. This is the team I was expecting at the start of the touney.
Tomorrow's game is hard to cap.
I think Croatia will win, but this Turkey team reminds me of Greece from four years ago.
at +384, Turkey is tempting.

good call on the over Sherlock. I should have known the boys were gonna blow up. Portugal has Ronaldo, the Dutch have Ruud, Croatia has muscle, but man, Germany has everything. I totally agree on Turkey, scared out of the bejesus to bet on them.
My play:
We're split on this one. I think the under is the play as smaller Turkey will have to bunker in and counter-attack. 3 goals seems like a lot but you nailed Germany and that worries me a bit. I just can't see Croatia (who I think will win) allowing 1 or 2 goals to the pesky Turks who have the better wheels (speed) but a huge disadvantage on the set pieces. The weather might decide the total. You see that high school turf they layed down in Basel for the Germany game?
Anyways..best of luck...just the under 3 for me for 2 units.

Lesson learned: never betray the Black, Red, and Gold.
Almost a horrible end to the 1H with the Portugal goal then Ronaldo just missing. I know it wasn't a goal, but what a freakin cannon-shot by LuLu that just missed. What a huge differnce with Basti in, he brought so much energy....and continues his reign over Portugal. I don't think Gomez even stepped foot on the field.
Congrats on the Over and Germany....two more to go.

I put this in yesterday, I watched all 3 games for of Croatia and only one of Turkeys games. Im not sold on Turkey. Going with the better team in my oponion.
Croatia to win in 90 min.
120 to 100 is what i got yesterday..
I must say. I was leaning on Port yesterday and actually put the bet in for them to make it to the semi's. then I read the post and saw you guys were going opposite ways on both sides. team and total. I know i lost my prop bet on Germ to go over 5.5 goals in the prelims and thought I was giving up on them, as I watched the pre game show I sold myself on Germany and hedged the bet to lose a couple of bucks and jumped on the over. Turned for a profit day but all in all, was a good game to watch. Cant believe Ballack got away with the push from behind to get his header. it looked pretty clear to me... good luck today.

When I booked the croatia under it was 2 1/2 under -145.
I'm on it..Good luck..maybe we get a push/win with 2-0.
But frankly, I still thnk we get a 1-0 or 1-1 in regulation. Can't see em scoring 3 so far.

10-4 ATS +14.1 units (WON ON TURKEY UNDER YESTEDAY +2 UNITS)
Today's game is another good one. Everyone thinks the Dutch are going to continue to steamroll but this Russia team is very good. Look at their group play and you see a team that did what they needed to do to get to the quarters. After watching the Netherlands, it's obvious you have to slow them down and play a controlled game with counters if you want to win. France and Italy made the mistake of trying to push the pace and it didn't work. I actually read that Russia plans to use Turkey's gameplan: Bunker in and counter. I"m on the under today:
2 units on Russia under 2 1/2 -120 (90 minute line, OT and shoot outs do not count)
As we get deeper in the tourney, I think you'll see less scoring and more OT's as the better teams field much better defenses.

I'm in complete agreement with you. A couple things about this game. Netherlands has played phenomenal during this tourney so far, but Russia has played very well and their coach is really, really good. Take away that Spain game, and Russia has looked a lot better than the line suggests. They are no pushovers. They scare me much like Turkey scared me. (I had Turkey to advance for a small one, but didn't post it)
I like the under for the exact same reason. I think Russia learned their lesson from the Spain match and haven't let a goal in since. They know (and we know) that they don't have the firepower to keep up with the Dutch.

A very traditional game with two superpowers of European futbol. Italy is the reigning world cup champ and Spain has been one of the best teams at Euro2008 so far.
First some stats:
Spain hasn't beaten Italy in a major competition in 22 years.
Italy is missing all Europe defender Fabio Cannevaro and has allowed more goals in group play than almost anyone.
Luca Toni..Bayern Munchen's striker..has been held scoreless the entire tournament.
Spain boasts the 2nd top scoring offense behind Liverpool star Fernando Torres and La Liga stud VIlla
My logic: THe total is set at 2 1/2 under -180 over +150. You take the goals against average and the average goals scored in their contests combined and the average in 90 minutes is 2.97 goals per game. Spain has little brother syndrome and really wants this win badly. I think it's in their head that they can't beat Italy and they are gonna press hard today. I am going to roll the over because I think Italy will get at least 1 and Spain should get at least 1 if not 2. Germany went into the semi's and barely avoided OT. Turkey pushed it into extra time and the Dutch went into extra time. I think defense prevails from the quarters on but not in this game. Way too much talent up front for both teams to see a defensive game. I think this will be the match of the quarters and I can't wait to watch it.

Semi-finals.
I've looked at this game in length and this is what I've come up with:
I don't know. I think Germany will win, but the juice is WAY too high. Turkey is capable of upsets and I'm not paying that juice to find out.
I like the over, but I'll lay off. Turkey might buckle down, but if they get down a goal early, this could be a really fast game.
I'll ride PC's pick, but other than that, I'll enjoy the game.

Sorry so late, had to keep watching..but here it is..

4**** on over 2 1/2 +110 on bookmaker.
I've patiently watched this line dip more and more to the under. I'm going over for a number of reasons:
Turkey keeps coming back. This game isn't going to be 0-0 at 90 minutes, Turkey will be playing from behind.
Lehman has been less than spectacular and Turkey has finished they have some quality finishers.
Turkey's top keeper is serving the 2nd of 2 game suspension and is unavailable. Now you gotta go against a rested, loaded, healthy Duetschlande team??? Better have the game of your life.
I like Ballack to really finish at least 1 today if not 2. He has great game in the air and the Germans should have quite a few set pieces.
Final factors: YOu've all heard of Turkey's small roster. No less than 6 starters from the quarterfinal win are out today due to suspension or injury.
I see Germany getting 1 goal quick and we're sitting at 1-0 at Half. Gonna finish at 2-1 Germany or 3-1 Germany in my opinion.
Hard total to cap but I can't see this depleted Turk team keeping the sheet clean against Lucas, Bastian, Michael, and a slew of finishers. On the other side of the coin, Turkey has proven they can get it done while playing from behind.
let's Roll..gl mike jones, you might be right but I've been looking at this over for awhile now and really like it. Actually think the injuries and suspensions will help our cause.

i actually hedged out after I saw your post PC so I am rooting for you guys! The over should have been in the bag not only from Turkey's 1st half chances but that NO CALL on a clear penalty....guess these refs suck as bad as the nba ones lmao

I've looked hard at tomorrow's match and I think I've found the right play.
Russia to advance +138.
Hear me out. With the exception of their opening game against Spain, Russia has looked really good, beating a pretty good Swedish team and the defending champs without letting in a goal. Then they keep up with the high flying Dutch. This all has to do with coaching and the Russians arguably have the best coach in the field with Guus Hiddink. He preaches the total football concept and had great success with South Korea (remember them in the world cup a few years ago).
Anyway, I think this Russian team has responded very well after that dismal first game. Add to that the revenge factor and the fact that Spain might be a little overconfident, this team has a real shot at the upset. They have the best player in the tournament with Roman Pavlyuchenko. He's playing real good right now.
I like the over too. At Pinnacle, it's a 2, so I'll play it as well.

I love it dude$$$ I went to a game in La Bombonera in Buenos Aires (stadium of Boca Juniors, where Maradona, Tevez, etc. started)... Shit is like that for 90 minutes non-stop!!!
