running up the score

I am a fan of Patriots football. I love the way they play, and I love to watch them. I enjoyed watching them beat St. Louis as underdogs years ago. People ask if they are running up the score this year? Of course they are! Bellicek even admits it "what do you want me to do, kick a field goal". But.. it's classless. It shows no respect for you opponent. This is not college, where the BCS favours blowouts. These are professionals with pride and ego.

Last night's game reminded me of what sportsmanship is all about. The Seahawks dominated and embarassed SF, who is in their division. They threw the ball for 3 quarters and did it well. When the game was out of reach, they ran it to kill the clock. They were not going to lose the game, so there was no need to keep scoring. It's about respect.

It's not even smart. I remember one game early in the year (it's escapes me right now). The Pats were up by 14 with a couple of minutes left to play in the red zone, 4th down. They throw for a TD. Now, if that's picked, the other team (mathematically) can win the game with a TD, onside, TD and OT. Impluasable, but probable. Not samrt when a FG gives you a three score lead.

Bottom line, it's classless. The Pats are just trying to get back at the league for spygate.

Messy: before you attack me, this is not about how good the Pats are. They're real good and will probably win it all this year. I think the Vegas line is -200 for them to win it all. Crazy! I think it's embarassing the way the organization is behaving and I wish it would stop.

It makes you want to cheer against them.

HAHA!!! I am not going to attack you Sherlock, you are not the only person who feels this way!! BUT, a couple of things here:

    1) From a gambling standpoint, the Pats running up the score is GREAT!! Thats why they are 8-1 ATS...I am not sure what the o/u ATS record is but I would imagine its favoring the over!! How high can vegas actually make the spread?? I say, keep running it up!

    2) Classless...Well, if you go back to the Washington game, I believe it was Matt Cassell (not a good runner) that scrambled before he ran the ball into the endzone. Well, what are you going to do? Are you telling me that Washington cannot stop the Pats second team?? The other team needs to "D" up plain and simple. Had the Pats sent the Field Goal team out there up 30-something, I could see your argument...BUT they give teams a chance to stop them..Can you imagine what people would be screaming if the Pats kicked a field goal up 40?????

Now, this is where I will see the counter-attack from all the HATERS and there are many!!! People are acting like this is the first time this has happened in football history....Oh, it has happened but yet it is only a big deal now because its the Patriots!! Lets compare this to another sport...any sport. When the Texas Rangers were up in their game 30 runs, did the rangers get up in the last inning and just strike out??? NO! In hockey, if a team is up 2 goals and they have a shot at an empty net with very little time left...do they just give the puck up??? NO! In hoops, if a team is up 20, do they just run the 24 sec clock down and give the ball back?? NO! They take a fucking shot! Talk about pride and ego...Well, defenses should show that they have it...I cant think of the dude from Washington who said "THEY' had already given up by the 4th quarter. Shame on him...If I were the coach...He'd be gone. Do you know what happens when you take the field and go say 75% because you are up big and dont want to run the score up??? You get fucking hurt..becasue there will be a guy, either angry or fired up coming off the bench looking to prove himself and he will demolish a guy going at 75%. That is the one thing that scares me..That we will lose someone to injury in a situation like that! I will have to look into it but the 85 bears, cowboys and 49ers, and i believe the St louis are just some of the teams that have been guitly of running up the scores in the past and none of this was ever an issue then!!

BOTTOM LINE: I just believe that there is more to this than just a "no class" organization. Instead of whining about what the Pats are doing, take advantage of it! 8-1 ATS...This is "GotPicks" and I have a pick for you...PATRIOTS -15.5 vs Buffalo this week. I believe your post should be fowarded to "Dear Abby" so she can console you about the Patriots "running up the score"!!!!

Ok, got your point. I just think it was classier what Holmgren did. Run the clock out, instead of throwing the ball.

NE is only -15.5?? Sunday night, national TV!

    NE 8-1 ATS, 7-2 Over.

The Bills barely sqeaked by Miami, who's D isn't so hot this year.

I don't think I will watch this game, as I will be embarassed to wear my Bill's hat. I'll be in Vegas, and I'm sure I will get some chips coming my way thanks to the Pats
