running up the score
I am a fan of Patriots football. I love the way they play, and I love to watch them. I enjoyed watching them beat St. Louis as underdogs years ago. People ask if they are running up the score this year? Of course they are! Bellicek even admits it "what do you want me to do, kick a field goal". But.. it's classless. It shows no respect for you opponent. This is not college, where the BCS favours blowouts. These are professionals with pride and ego.
Last night's game reminded me of what sportsmanship is all about. The Seahawks dominated and embarassed SF, who is in their division. They threw the ball for 3 quarters and did it well. When the game was out of reach, they ran it to kill the clock. They were not going to lose the game, so there was no need to keep scoring. It's about respect.
It's not even smart. I remember one game early in the year (it's escapes me right now). The Pats were up by 14 with a couple of minutes left to play in the red zone, 4th down. They throw for a TD. Now, if that's picked, the other team (mathematically) can win the game with a TD, onside, TD and OT. Impluasable, but probable. Not samrt when a FG gives you a three score lead.
Bottom line, it's classless. The Pats are just trying to get back at the league for spygate.
Messy: before you attack me, this is not about how good the Pats are. They're real good and will probably win it all this year. I think the Vegas line is -200 for them to win it all. Crazy! I think it's embarassing the way the organization is behaving and I wish it would stop.
It makes you want to cheer against them.
