lol, BigMessy is chillin Hilly.
Good stuff on the NDN's Sherlock.
Myself and Hilly and a few others were on the topic of the NDN's winning the WS and future odds back in March.
Well myself and another GP member laid some loot on the NDN's to win the WS. Yeah, we heard they didn't have the pitchers or they would fold to the Twinkies and W/Sox, but looks like we have a shot..
Let's see how this plays out, but if comes in like it should, we should cash like an ATM..
Also waiting on the Giants and Vikings on Futures at GOOD odds, while Seattle will payback the investment..
Good Luck and go Cleveland !!!!!!!!!!

I think they should bring in Gagne and have him pitch until his arm falls off. Have him intentionally walk the bases loaded then try and pitch out of it. Each time a runner scores or is retired, they should make him reload the bases. The fielders should refuse to make the third out and the catcher should drop all third strikes.

It is SAD, considering we very well may have to mid-level markets showing the world how to play baseball...Let's not factor in the 18.6 million dollar payroll that those hitters account for. What a pity !!!
Being the Champion just means being the NEXT to last to make a MISTAKE.. Who gives a shit who went farther ?????????????????? To much time on your hands. Show me the MONEY and that SALARY baby $$$$$$$
You Gotta LOVE baseball !!!

I understand BigMessy. I totally agree, but what do you win if you go farther ??? It's not really braggin rights, both are losers.
I think you guys in the Northeast pump yourself up.
Look at it in a different perspective.. You both loose to a team with ( 37% Sox - 17% Yanks ) of your payroll and they have a net revenue of 270% over your home based teams.. ( with the WS payouts ) What are you bragging about again ??? Guess money can't buy everything..That's the bad thing, teams that spend money are SUPPOSE to win, anything else is a failure.
Guess it's a BIG market thing though. The Patriots and The Cowboys have almost a double salary of the Colts, while the Green Bay Packers are the only team traded on the NYSE, although they are SMALLEST market team in the NFL... Gotta love sports !!
When will you guys realize that Quality over rides Quanity ?? Don't expect Cleveland to suddenly go stone cold, they have been doing this all year..

I do not expect the Indians to go cold...I expect the Sox to get back to doing what they have been doing!!! Francona needs to make a move with the line-up as well!!!
Salaries...Revenue...Shit, I just wanted collect from the man every week...The only time that shit affects me is when I have to pay 7 bucks for a friggin beer!!!! I hear what your saying though!!

STRATEGIES for DEALING WITH
UNEXPECTED POOR PERFORMANCE or LOSS
by Mustand1z
At the 2007 ALCS, the Boston Redsox were expected to win. They had won the world series in 2004. However, the final result was very disappointing. According to one of the players: "We didn't play like we can play, and that's worse than playing great and still losing because of some knuckleball fuck."
An unexpected lose may lead to negative feelings, such as mild depression, frustration, or self doubts regarding one's ability. What can athletes do when faced with such difficulties? The following strategies may be helpful to maintain a positive attitude that is necessary for continued motivation and effort.
1. View the poor performance as a lesson learned.
It is human to make mistakes. Even the greatest athletes sometimes fall short of their goals. After a poor performance or loss, athletes may initially feel disappointed in response to a poor performance or a loss. However, if athletes do not view it as a personal disaster or an indication of personal incompetence, a poor performance or a loss can teach athletes a valuable lesson.
There is an old Chinese story about winning and losing: one day, an old man lost his favorite horse near the Great Wall. When people tried to comfort him, he said: Who knows whether it is bad or good. Later, his horse returned accompanied by another horse as well. In the Chinese written language, the crisis is composed of two characters. The first one means dangerous and hurting, while the other character means chance or possibility. Therefore, a poor performance or a loss is not totally hopeless if athletes can learn from it and view it as an opportunity for future improvement.
2. Identify aspects of the performance that are controllable.
When athletes expect to do well and do poorly instead, it is very important to determine whether the reasons for the loss are controllable or not. For example, two Redsox players were asked why they performed so poorly. One player commented: we could not play well because we did not play as a team and we made too many errors. The second player felt that the audiences were too loud and the opponents were too strong. Only two of these four factors are directly under the athlete's control. According to theory, effort and mental preparation are factors that are controllable, while factors such as style or skill level of the opponents; playing conditions or environment are things that athletes can not control. It is obvious that play can be improved by daily practice and players on the field can work as one by setting common goals and obtaining a better understanding each other.
Studies show that those athletes who view their effort and performance as main contributions to their outcome can do better in the future than those who attribute luck or other external factors to a poor performance. So when examining the reasons for a poor performance or an unexpected lose, attention should be focused on the factors that are controllable.
3. Examine competition goals.
There are two types of goals in sport. One is focused on the outcome or the result of the competition. To beat the opposing team or to win a race are the examples of those goals. Studies in sport psychology have indicated that setting outcome goals alone does not enhance motivation or performance. Focusing only on the end product distracts the athlete's attention from the task at hand. In addition, outcome goals are frequently out of the athlete's direct control. Research indicates that athletes' goals should be based on the process. Examples of process goals are improving one's percentage of passing accuracy to a target or serving the ball to a certain area of the opponent's court. Process oriented goals are more effective, because they can help athletes to concentrate on each play or action. Athletes know exactly what they need to do in order to be successful without worrying about the outcome.
So, after a poor performance or an unexpected loss, athletes need to determine if their goals for the previous competition were properly set on the performance. An old Chinese proverb states "A thousand miles' journey depends on each single step." In other words, one by one process goals can lead to a successful season.
In summary, an unexpected poor performance or loss need not have a negative impact. Athletes who apply proper strategies and draw positive things from such outcomes will gain insight, control and motivation from the experience.

Thx JT...There is still plenty of baseball left!!! I know this is the daily picks thread but there isn't much to play today!!!!
Josh Beckett has been here before. The fate of Boston's season is being placed upon his shoulders, and history would appear to indicate that the pitcher is up to the task.
Four years ago, when the Cubs stood one win away from reaching their first World Series since 1945, Beckett stepped in and led the Marlins to an improbable comeback. He took the ball in Game 5 of the 2003 National League Championship Series and spun a two-hit complete-game shutout to send the series back to Chicago, where Florida prevailed in seven games.
Now, after his Red Sox absorbed a 7-3 defeat at the hands of the Indians in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series on Tuesday, Beckett is once again being asked to revive his team's hopes for October glory. Mike Lowell was on that famous Florida squad with Beckett in 2003, and Boston's third baseman said there's no one else he'd rather have on the hill for the Sox in Game 5 on Thursday.
"There's no one better for us," Lowell said on Tuesday night. "That's the guy we want on the mound. It's kind of ironic. He took Game 5 in '03 and that spelled out good things for us. Hopefully, he does the same for us."
Beckett and Lowell are hardly the only Red Sox players who have experience in such a critical scenario. In one of the most amazing rallies in sports history, the 2004 Boston club came back from a 3-0 deficit in the ALCS against the Yankees. From there, the Sox went on to take the World Series crown.
"There's a lot of guys in this clubhouse still that know in '04 we were down three games to nothing to New York," said Red Sox starter Tim Wakefield, who took the loss in Game 4 on Tuesday. "We've got our work cut out for us, and hopefully we can take this back to Boston and get in front of our home crowd.
"We've got to win Thursday -- that's the bottom line. If we don't, we're going home. We've got the right guy on the mound that day and hopefully we can continue this in Boston."
The Red Sox probably wouldn't be where they are right now without Beckett's strong regular-season showing, which has carried over into the playoffs. Boston's lone win thus far in the ALCS against the Tribe came in Game 1, when Beckett turned in six solid innings en route to his second victory of the postseason.
"He did a good job against us," Indians manager Eric Wedge said. "We could have done a better job with him. Having seen him a little more recently, hopefully it'll help us a little bit. But the flipside is he's also had a pretty good look at us."
In Game 1 of the AL Division Series against the Angels, Beckett opened the series with a complete-game shutout, striking out eight and issuing no walks. Over 15 innings this October, Beckett has allowed just two runs with 15 stikeouts and no walks in two wins. In his playoff career, he is 4-2 with a 1.87 ERA and three shutouts.
Two of those gems came in 2003, when Beckett pitched his way to the World Series Most Valuable Player honor. Four years later, Beckett is a little older and a little wiser, but he's still the same big-game pitcher he was back then.
"I'm more focused on what I need to do," said Beckett, when asked how he has changed since his days with Florida. "It was kind of like a party in 2003. It was fun, it was a bunch of young guys, and we were just out having fun, just happened to beat ... whoever we were playing every day that year."
That experience helps the Red Sox understand that the series isn't lost.
"You realize that it can be done," Lowell said. "It's not something that's impossible to do. We definitely have our work cut out for us, but I don't think we should look at it as we have to win three games in a row. We've just got to win two days from now."
Beckett gives Boston a good chance.

fellas i might have a possible goy type of play this weekend. i don't like to hype plays as i like for people to make their own decisions on how much they want to wager.
i remember some years ago when i didn't know what i was doing and would just pickride all the time. then some guys would say goy and game of this and i would bet over my head and then lose my shirt.
however, i need to wait until the day of the game and wait for possible injuries. if all stays the same i might unload on a play. i'll let you guys know.

Rocks are at +155 to win the WS @ bookmaker now. Pretty solid price IMO. Would've expected a # like this vs. the Sox which is still very possible. Still I think I'll take some of this for a team that has only lost once in six weeks.
Peace
