Friday, 8/27/2004 ROY OSWALT (R) vs. KERRY WOOD (R). Oswalt has given up 25 hits in just 15 IP over three starts vs the Cubs this year. Cubs getting hot going 9-1 L10 and Wood just beat Oswalt 8/22 as we had the Cubs as a Top Underdog that Day. I will back them today again as my 6 Star Play Of The Day. Cubs very hot at the plate hitting .324 over their last 7 games scoring 8+ runs per game. Houston playing better as well but Oswalt has had no success vs the Cubs this year. Take Wood and the hot Cubs bats as today's 6 Star Play Of The Day in MLB Action. I am only listing Wood so if Oswalt is a scratch Friday I am still taking the Cubs

With this being the real dress rehearsal I will be looking for the Seahawks to play with some real purpose in San Diego. QB Matt Hassellbeck will start. Trent Dilfer, the No. 2 quarterback, will see his first preseason action against San Diego, but not until after the first half. That's because Mike Holmgren will play his starters more in this game than any other in the preseason. They are expected to play the entire first half, then the first series of the third quarter to get used to coming back from the locker room and playing. Holmgren said he wouldn't do that with every position. For San Diego QB Drew Brees will start. Coach Marty Schottenheimer announced that rookie QB Philip Rivers will play in the second half and "might" get some work with the first team against Seattle. Rivers seemed surprised when told he would play not only in the second half, but possibly as early as the second quarter. RB LaDainian Tomlinson will play for the first time in the exhibition against Seattle. He has been limited in practice as well as held out of games to limit the possibility of injury. I also like this Pre Season Angle in this game. Preseason system: PLAY ON any team that was outgained by 150 or more yards. (36-16 69.2%). I am looking for the Seahawks top performance of the Pre Season Friday night after just going through the motions last week at home vs. Denver. Rivers has been in camp a very short time so when he enters the game the offense for the Chargers will have to be limited. The Seahawks will be a little thin on the O line and with Linebackers but I expect the Seattle first team offense to put up numbers vs the Charger D. Aaron Brooks will miss the rest of the regular season and repalacement Todd Bouman will start and get most of the work behind a thin Saints offensive line. For Chicago QB Rex Grossman and the starters are expected to play the first half, the most time yet in preseason for the starters. Backup QB Jon Quinn returned to practice Wednesday and will play in the 3 quarter and rookie Craig Krenzel will get the mop up duty. Here is another Pre Season angle I like in this game. Play On - Any team (CHICAGO) - off a home win, top level team, winning 75% or more of their games in the preseason. (43-18 over the last 10 seasons.) (70.5%, +23.2 units.) The straight up record of the team this system pertains to is : (37-26 over the last 5 seasons.). The average line posted in these games was: Opponent favored by 0.6 The average score in these games was: Team 21.7, Opponent 18.6 (Average point differential = +3.1). The number of games in which this system covered the spread by 7 or more points was 18 (29.5% of all games.). The situation's record this season is: (0-0). Without Brooks and a thin O line I will back the Bears as a 3% Play Friday Night.

Both starting Units will see action the entire first half and possibly the first series of the second half. Denver looking very good on defense and Plummer will play the first half. With the extended time he will have a better opportunity to crank up the Denver offense which has been very average at best. Shanahan like to win at anytime regardless of whether this is pre season or not and I am looking for a good effort from the Broncos in the first home apperance of the season. Take the Broncos as a 3% Play as they roll the Texans at home.
