Texas +177
Texas is hot: 9 of 12, and in those 12 games the offense has been sizzling. They have produced 6+ runs in 10 of the games. Kevin Millwood is a much better pitcher than he has shown. Sure, his ERA is over 7, but he has had three consecutive starts allowing less runs than his previous start. He has gone from 7 to 5 to 4 to 3. Kenny Rogers gave up just two hits in his return to the rotation, and 0 runs in 6 innings. That was against a Braves line-up that had not scored but a run in five games. But, it is often the case that pitchers making a return have a lot of adrenlin, and the second time out is not as good. He will have a difficult time duplicating that performance against the red-hot Rangers. Rogers gave up 27 hits in 17 innings vs this Ranger club last year. Texas for the sweep.
Baltimore +115
Eric Bedard struggled throughout April with a 6.09 ERA. Bedard has pitched lights out since. He has worked 66 innings, allowing just 53 hits. He has struckout 79 and his ERA has been 2.32. Bedard has magnificent control as he has not walked a batter in three of his last four starts. After allowing six April home runs, he has allowed five since. The Yankees have now dropped 6 of 7. Roger Clemens has an ERA of 5+ and accumulates pitches quickly. The last time out he wilted in the heat, and could not get out of the 5th inning. The temperature will be approaching the century mark in Baltimore today, so expect 90 or so with high heat at game time.
Reds +115
Aaron Harang has been the one bright spot for Cincinnati. Harang has posted a 1.88 ERA covering his last five starts. The Reds are 18-43 .295 in games not started by Harang. They are 11-5 .688 when he starts. Harang has turned into a true stopper and he is 8-3 in his last 11 starts after a Reds loss. When the Reds are a dog, he is 10-1 in his last 11 starts in that role. The Phillies will counter with Jamie Moyer who has been a serviceable pitcher, even as he approaches his 45th birthday. It is going to be extremely hot in Philly tonight, and we think that may have more impact on Moyer than Harang. Hard to argue with the numbers as Cincy wins 68% of the time with Harang on the hill.
