Thoughts on the Virginia Tech Murders

First and foremost, the obvious regret and prayers to all those involved/affected by the shootings in Blacksburg.

Some questions I have:

**How was the school not on lockdown after the 1'st round of shootings?

**When was the last time we had a homicidial "asian" killer? It goes against most Far Easter's belief sets and intellect.

**Could this really have been over a girl? The Asian community (at least the ones I know in K.C., jacksonville, and PCB) are very tight lipped and stay clear of pale faces whenever possible. There's got to be more to this than a shunned boyfriend.

**Was the South Korean student an Engineering major?

**Notice the time of year..close to the anniversarys of both Branch Davidian and Colombine.

**When the first two students were shot earlier at 7:00ish, was there an increase in security?

**When was the first response to V Tech with force? This kid seemed to have easy access. With a fatality two hours earlier, you would think that security..at the minimum..would have been beefed up.

I'm tellin ya, I think I'm a sharp guy and the Asian community that I know and have friends in will say the same thing...this wasn't over a girl. If I was a betting man, I would lay money it has NOTHING to do with an ex. But that's the story we will hear.

Just wanted to vent. I like Hokie fans and the school. It's a devestating blow to one of the finer institutions in the country. 3 weeks before finals too. That will really miss with the academic calendar. I really feel for the school. I've been there and it's a wonderful community with great people. It will be judged in the short term future by this event alone. Much like Duke was affected by the Lacrosse Rape accusations. Wrongfully so, but what can you do? No one saw this coming and to lay blame on the institution is a gross injustice. I just want to hear the facts because I personally believe something else went down yesterday.

My sorrows to all those who were affected by this.

I would have to agree with you PC...I haven't read too much about it yet, but based on what I have heard, there is now way that this was based simply on a girl. I heard he had 2 handguns...which clearly means he had planned this attack...two guns and no doubt extra ammo (33 killed and some wounded) i am sure he missed so we are looking at atleast 40+ rounds. If he had shot her and maybe two or three others that were nearby, maybe it would be believable....But he (for whatever reason) snapped, and he plotted this massacre, locking doors and shit.

As far as the action that the school took or failed to take...That is always subject to scrutiny as we know hindsight is 20/20. You would hope that security was tightened but it just doesn't seem that way...The campus should have been covered with cops....We'll have to wait and see what they release in the upcoming days...

it's easy for me sitting here in Ireland to pontificate about events in the US

as Jdelt says on the main forum "there is something majorly wrong with our society" i don't think the majority of Americans would agree with this and therein may lie the problem, the land of the free and the home of the brave has become anything but, people who dissent from the mainstream view are openly accused of treachery and hatred of their own country, i would hope that most Americans can see this is wrong, there is nothing wrong with patriotism but there is also nothing wrong with questioning what is being done in the name of your own country,we Irish have had to deal with this for along time now and i feel that finally we are turning the corner i hope that it can happen quickly in your country,

i have no wish to offend anyone on this forum and would hope that those who will no doubt disagree with me can do so without taking offense, they are entitled to their view as i am to mine,at times like these surely there must be a groundswell of opinion that some sort of gun control is necessary can ordinary America not see that if these people are not given access to weapons the less likely these incidents would be to occur

finally though i am not a religious person i would express my condolences and heartfelt sympathies to those who have been bereaved in this shocking tragedy
