Thanks PC for the recommendations for the college bb points spreads...
I figure since PC covers the Big 12 and Missouri Valley, that I would try and cover the Big 10...so, here goes...
For Saturday, January 6th:
There are 4 matchups tomorrow and they are as follows (with the current BetCRIS lines as of 4:30pm PST):
9am PST, Penn State at Purdue (-9)
11am PST, Ohio State (-1) at Illinois
11:30am PST, Michigan (-2) at Northwestern
1:30pm PST, Minnesota at Wisconsin (-19)
1st matchup:
Penn State (10-4, 5-1 ATS, 4-0 ATS @home, 1-1 ATS Away)
Purdue (11-4, 6-5 ATS, 5-1 ATS @home, 1-4 ATS Away)
Penn State is coming off an impressive win at home against Northwestern, while Purdue is coming off a 6 point loss at lowly Minnesota
I would lean toward Penn State plus the points
2nd matchup:(my play for the day)
Ohio State (12-2, 7-5 ATS, 6-3 ATS @home, 1-2 ATS Away)
Illinois (12-4, 4-7 ATS, 2-4 ATS @home, 2-3 ATS Away)
Ohio State is coming off a hard fought win at home against Indiana, while Illinois is coming off a lackluster performance (and loss) at Michigan.
Also, Illinois has had only one decent win so far this season at a neutral site in St Louis against Missouri (by 3). All other reasonable competition have been losses (Maryland at home by 6, at Arizona by 12, and at Xavier by 6)
Ohio State's only two losses come on the road at North Carolina and at Florida, both much stronger competition than the Illini will offer.
I will go with Ohio State to win (and cover) in the tough venue at Illinois
3rd matchup:
Michigan (13-3, 5-7 ATS, 4-5 ATS @home, 1-2 ATS Away)
Northwestern (10-4, 5-6 ATS, 3-4 ATS @home, 2-2 ATS Away)
Michigan is coming off a win against Illinois at home after several forgettable games previously, while Northwestern is coming off of a beat down at Penn State
I am undecided on this game as Michigan may have a let down on the road after a win against Illinois...no play
4th matchup:
Minnesota (7-8, 4-7 ATS, 2-6 ATS @home, 2-1 ATS Away)
Wisconsin (14-1, 7-3 ATS, 4-3 ATS @home, 3-0 ATS Away)
Minnesota is coming off of an impressive win at home against Purdue (however, nothing to get too excited about) and Wisconsin is coming off of a 10 point win at Georgia on Sunday.
19 points is a big number to cover in the Big 10...I would shy away from this one as well
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, to summarize, my play for today (and for the record) in the Big 10 is:
Ohio State (-1) at Illinois, 11am PST
Oh, by the way, it is sunny, but cold and windy here in Southern Cal today (The Rose Bowl is over...so we can go back to our regularly scheduled winter weather)
