NBA Picks for 11-01-06

All right, I'm betting Wed's game now because I think I'm gonna get some nice extra points as the line goes down. I have two for tonight:

Play #1: Suns/Lakers under 208 1/2..pending as of post

Play #2: Roll with me on Indiana/Charlotte under 195..this line is dropping as we speak.

Here's why:

Emeka Okafor...still rusty and not ready to go...

Latest News

CBS SportsLine Topix.Net Rotoworld

Emeka Okafor only faintly resembles the player who won rookie of the year two springs ago. His sprained right ankle appears to be healed, but the rust shows all over his game. He's not the explosive athlete he was, which means he's as likely to foul as grab a key rebound.

(Updated 10/23/2006).

Primez Brezac the other Center...

The Charlotte Observer reports that Primoz Brezec (illness) might not play in Wednesday's season opener against Indiana. He has been sick for most of the preseason after a long summer playing for the Slovenian national team. "I don't know if it's burnout or what," Bickerstaff said. "We may need at some point to decide whether we have to shut him down."

(Updated 10/31/2006).

...the boy is still sick..give him some air!

Sean May...the former 1'st rounder..

Sean May is the likely candidate to replace Brezec if the big man can't go. When healthy, Brezec is worth starting as a No. 1 center in Fantasy play because of his double-digit scoring capabilities. With a possible starting spot for May, that makes him an intriguing Fantasy player in Week 1. The second-year man blew his knee out last season, so there are still a lot of questions surrounding his Fantasy abilities. Brezec was bad in the preseason, so if May produces early, this could start a shift at the five-spot.

My take..The pacers are in turmoil too..can you say pre season distractions? Steven..we gonna get jail time? Hey Jamaal, where's the gun? Then throw in a Charlotte team that is obviously not ready to start the regular season. let's remember the Pacers play great defense as do the bobcats.

ROLL WITH ME ON UNDER 195 1/2.

Play #3:

ROLL WITH ME ON Sac/Minn UNDER 187 1/2.

I'll have some side plays coming but I think I'll play totals as the season opens. I really like this under. You have to prove to me that you can score Twolves. How bout the new look Kings that play better defense? Did I mention that new ball theory..anyways..neither team is gonna light it up and this game won't break 180.

Damn, if I would have been around to see that Kobe wasn't playing, I would have hit the Lakers harder! Oh well, still got something from the Laker W! I'll say it time and time again: Play the injury to the star player in the first missed game (especially when you find out a little before game time when the line jumps a few points or more)! Trust me, you will win in the long run when you do this! Only in rare certain situations do I go against this! On to the next day with some more value plays:

    NBA (1-0):

CHICAGO +2.5 (they are really good; can't wait to see this team really gel; look out when they do; Orlando should be able to grab a playoff spot this year, but I think the Bulls will be too much in this one, despite the back-to-back road games)

NEW JERSEY -6 (I don't know what the Raptors are doing, but I know one thing for sure: they will struggle again this year; New Jersey should be better than last year if they stay healthy)

DETROIT -7 (they still have the nucleus and added Dale Davis to help out in the middle; they aren't quite done yet; the Bucks just might take a step back this year; they are very young)

SACRAMENTO +5 (with Artest in the lineup for a full season, the Kings should be in the playoff hunt all year long; man, I feel bad for Garnett; he needs some more talent around him to make another run at the title)

MEMPHIS -5 (Isiah Thomas is absolutely horrible; let's see how long it takes for the oddsmakers to adjust the lines for Knicks games; Memphis made some moves in the offseason and will be without Gasol for awhile, but I'm not worried about this game: they are the playing the Knicks)

didnt like last night, and was right, nothing played anywhere near what i expected...

    Boston Celtics -4.5

The woeful celtics... I cant believe I'm recommending them...

I like the celtics team, they've added some more scorers that will, I predict, jell together and finally launch the celtics back into respectability...

Other reasons for playing them - Red Auerbach.

I dont like this pick cause I also happen to like the Hornets lineup this year, but I gotta go with the emotional edge factor... celtics -5 ***

I am also playing couple other games tonight:

Pacers -2 ** : alot of controversy, but like em

Rockets +1.5 ** : added some good pieces, utah good, tough place to win, but houston seem to love the road last year, going with that again

Seattle -8 ** : this is more to do with not playing portland than seattle. seattle will stomp on em tonight.

    good luck people!

    0-1 ATS

    Got two posted above.

Just wanted to say thanks to the "cagers" for posting on this board. Nice to get all the hoops in one spot during football season and "drama" season.

0-1 ATS on the year and 2 pending tonight

Last night...I just started laughing when they scored 40 points on 87% shooting...IN THE FIRST 5:30$$$$

I'm not playing anything big the first week but will use the same system I used last 2 years here...GOW and GOM and 1 GOY on total and sides. Just so stoked the season has started.

    GL all.

I'm a huge hoops fan and have been a casual (but avid gambling) on the Knicks since Bernard ruled the paint. Anyways, I got a few questions for ya. I'm not callin ya out, I want to know for fantasy and gambling purposes because I'm pretty sure your a Knicks fan..anyone else feel free to comment as well:

1.) Who's gonna get the PT...Jamal, Steph, or Francis.

2.) Will Curry or Frye be the guy in the middle?

3.) You know as well as i do the unders in New York are usually cash money. Last year I hit one on the under..in DOUBLE OT....but as I looked at the team this off season, I gotta wonder about the changes. That team has too much offensive talent to score like they did last year. And all of the rooks and 2nd years will want and deserve minutes.

I'm riding with ya on 1'st quarter under for 1 unit because you are right, that offense was tepid at best last year.

Aqua harry...weird UEFA...I can't believe Arsenal didn't bulge the onion bag today. Watched that game and came away thinking Arensal will only advance out of group play.

NBA League Pass has free season preview. I think it's usually a week.

That gets us to when the real hoops start on 11/7.
