Georgia Tech at Virginia Tech
Posting this now in case anyone wanted to look into it as well. I’ll repost Saturday with any other picks.
VT is 4-0, but for those that don’t know, they’ve beaten Northeastern, UNC, Duke, and Cincinnati who are a combined 3-12, with all three wins coming vs 1-AA opponents. I think it’s safe to say this will be their toughest test by far. VT offensive line is very inexperienced and their QB is unproven. GT likes to blitz like madmen, so this is going to make things very interesting for VT’s offense. VT defense is always tough, especially in Blacksburg, as they give up 5.8ppg. I don’t think any of their opponents had a Calvin Johnson though. One concern is young secondary…but it’s time for people to become acquainted with one Macho Harris.
For GT, this is their first road game. Home wins vs Samford, Troy, and UVA, with a loss to ND. ND final was only 14-10. After seeing ND’s D the past few weeks, I’m guessing teams were just rusty in the opener. Obviously Johnson is a concern on offense. Defensively GT only allows 75 rushing ypg. If Brandon Ore doesn’t have a good day for VT, where does the offense come from?
Where I’m going with this is taking the first half Under 19.5. I think VT’s inexperience will show, especially before any half-time adjustments. I think the VT D will do its thing….but man I’m afraid of big Calvin. Hopefully they get enough pressure on Ball to make him dump it off. GT’s first road game, so maybe they start slow, although after the beatdown they took there last year (51-7) I’m sure they’ll come out attacking. Biggest concern for me is a Glennon INT or a VT blocked punt to set-up good field position.
Another play I’m considering is teasing GT and the Under. I really think VT will struggle in this one.
If anyone has any input, please feel free to share.
