De La Hoya was in New York yesterday to help promote Saturday's HBO pay-per-view fight between Antonio Tarver and Bernard Hopkins at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall. Of course questions arouse if De La Hoya had made up his mind... to retire now, or to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr.?
Quoted by George Willis of NY Post, De La Hoya said in regards to fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr.: "It's crunch time now because the pay-per-view deadline is coming up so we can start planning the publicity and all of that. But I truly feel I need a few more days to come up with a definite answer."
De La Hoya added: "I've never had to make such a difficult decision in my life."
"I'm an ambitious person and a fighter who always wants to fight the best. I realize Floyd Jr. is out there for me and I realize it's a fight that I can win. And obviously I realize it's a fight that I can lose."
