TIP OF THE DAY
Sport: College Basketball Picks
Game: Memphis @ Alabama on Nov 17 2005 10:00PM
Prediction: Alabama
Current Line: -1.5 -110
Over/Under: OFF
Reason: Alabama snuck out a win on Tuesday as the
Crimson Tide came out pretty slow and might have
taken the scrappy RedHawks not very serious. A
pressure defense in the second half put them over the
top and it was agreed that Alabama’s athleticism, and
the success of that pressing defense, made the
difference. Senior forward and All-SEC player Chuck
Davis led Alabama with 19 points, nine rebounds and
four assists.
The Crimson Tide also returns four of its top six players
(three starters and top reserve Jean Felix), and will be
looking for increased production from all four with the
loss of leading scorers Kennedy Winston and Earnest
Shelton. The team is loaded on the inside, and has a
solid point guard which is huge this time of year.
Ronald Steele averaged 7.9 points and an SEC-leading
5.0 assists per game last season.
Memphis rolled in its opener over Wisconsin-Milwaukee
but the Panthers came in with a lot of questions. They
lost Horizon League Player of the Year Ed McCants and
also lost head coach Bruce Pearl who took over at
Tennessee. The Tigers should get credit however as
they played a solid game, especially on defense,
holding the Panthers to just 22.2 percent shooting from
the floor. Rodney Carney and Shawne Williams played
well but the rest of the Memphis offense shot just 41.7
percent.
Coleman Coliseum is one of the best home court
advantages in the country. Alabama went 16-1 at home
last season including an 8-0 record against non-conference
competition. Including the game on Tuesday, the
Crimson Tide are 79-9 at home over the last five years.
That is hard to overlook. Memphis played well on
defense in its opener but it won’t happen again here as
Alabama grabs yet another home win and heads to
New York. Play Alabama Crimson Tide One Unit

Tech Red Raiders at Syracuse Orangemen, Thursday, November 17th, 9:00 P.M. EST EST
Syracuse shot 1-for-19 from 3-point range in its 67-62 win over Cornell: expect a better shooting performance tonight. The Orangemen are 17-6 ATS in November games since 1997. Texas Tech got a combined 44 points from holdovers Martin Zeno and Jarrius Jackson to defeat Texas Southern 74-61 in its last but can't expect the same production versus a better Syracuse club.
