Philadelphia applies to a 111-57-3 ATS contrary indicator that indicates that they are due to turn things around a bit. The Cowboys, meanwhile, apply to a negative 103-165-11 ATS statistical profile indicator. However, those angles only serve to keep me off of Dallas as a Best Bet. Philadelphia is just not a good team this season, especially now with Terrell Owens kicked off the team. Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb performed well last week, but he was a worse than average passing quarterback his entire career before Owens joined the team and was worse than average last year when Owens was hurt, and I rate the Eagles’ offense at 0.1 yppl worse than average without Owens. Dallas has been playing great defensively the last month and the Cowboys are now 0.6 yppl better than average defensively for the season (4.9 yppl allowed to teams that would average 5.5 yppl against an average defensive team), so they should handle the Eagles watered down attack in this game considering that they held the Eagles to just 129 total yards at 3.0 yppl in a 33-10 win in Dallas when Philly had Owens. The match-up when the Cowboys have the ball is dead even, as Dallas is average offensively (5.3 yppl against teams that would combine to allow 5.3 yppl to an average offensive team) while the Eagles allow an average of 5.5 yppl to teams that would average 5.5 yppl against an average team. Philadelphia is also at a 2 points disadvantage in special teams and my math model favors Dallas by 5 points. However, the situations favoring Philadelphia are worth 6 ½ points, which makes this game tough to call. The math is stronger than the angles, so I’ll lean slightly with the Cowboys plus the points.
