The United States booked their spot at next summer's finals in Germany with a convincing 2-0 win over Mexico. Despite the loss, the Mexicans can count on qualifying while Costa Rica put themselves alone in third with a big win in Panama.
Two superb set-pieces in a stretch of five second-half minutes saw the United States blank arch-rivals Mexico 2-0 and become the first team from North, Central America and the Caribbean to book their place at Germany 2006.
After a dour first half defined largely by robust physicality and disjointed football, the US took a 53rd-minute lead when Eddie Lewis's long free-kick from the middle of the park picked out towering full-back Oguchi Onyewu, who headed against the post. Luckily for the States, Steve Ralston was on the scene to bundle the ball home and send the unusually pro-American Ohio crowd into wild celebrations.
Just five minutes later, a short corner found its way back to Claudio Reyna who coolly picked out DaMarcus Beasley alone in front of goal. As the Mexican backline failed to pull up and force the PSV man into an offside position, he collected with time and space before slotting past Oswaldo Sanchez to seal a famous win for the Americans.
Amid the din of fireworks and frenzied celebrations at Crew Stadium, the usually stone-faced US boss Bruce Arena could not hide his joy. "Mexico are always a tough opponent," he said. "We are thrilled to have beaten them and even more thrilled to have booked our place in Germany next summer. The goals came at a crucial time in the game and the crowd was fantastic throughout. It was a good night."

The USA face Guatemala on Wednesday in a largely meaningless game for the North Americans. Arena admitted that he will use a heavily experimental squad now that his team have secured qualification. "We will go with a team that can win, but I will be experimenting," he said.
The US will have "clinch" effect going..starting roughly 5-8 players who won't make the Copa team. I don't expect Keller in goal, but I'll take Friedel or Howard any day. ALso, expect Reyna (captain), Beasley, Donovan, Wolff, McBride, Oluchewia to all sit. Guatemala still has a shot at the cup and I think they might take the side as well. US defense is one of the deepest in the world. If you see the total on Wednesday at 2 1/2 or more..ROLL ON THE UNDER IN GUATEMALA/USA!
All right on to day bases:
MLB BEST BET: Cleveland Indians -110..GOW type money for me. I think this one is eassssyyyy!!
MLB Total Bet: I'm rollin the under 7 1/2 in Milwaukee between Mr. Davis and Mr. Peavy.
MLB Dog Bet: I'm rollin on the Yanks @ +130. Chaconi gets it done for the jabroni's today in Oaktown. Zito's numbers against the Yanks over his career don't impress me.
Have a good one all...USA TO THE SHOW BABY$$$$$$$$$
