St. Louis Rams
+ 1-5 ATS in third preseason game last six years
+ OVER 9-2 in third preseason game last 11 years
+ Bulger's first half not enough: Starting QB Marc Bulger had an impressive first half of action in a 36-21 loss to San Diego on Sunday, but the defense couldn't hold the Chargers. Bulger was 15-of-21 for 181 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the first half. However, the Rams surrendered 27 points by halftime, including two 55-yard runs. "We had some missed tackles that resulted in over 100 yards in two plays rushing,'' St. Louis head coach Mike Martz said. "This was a very, very good football, an outstanding team, especially offensively. They are probably as good as any team on the league on offense. They exposed us. It's a good wakeup call in a lot of areas."
+ Rams also run well in garbage time: Second-year RB Steven Jackson combined with Arlen Harris for 17 carries and 91 yards in the loss while Marshall Faulk continued his limited play with just two carries for five yards. Jackson could win the starting job with a couple more impressive games in the preseason.
at Detroit Lions
+ 1-7 ATS in third preseason game last eight years
+ Harrington plays well despite loss: Starting QB Joey Harrington had another solid game in limited action, completing 5-of-6 passes for 46 yards while his reserves struggled. Backup Jeff Garcia competed 9-of-15 passes for 99 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions and rookie Dan Orlovsky was 9-of-14 for 120 yards with one pick. Still, starting RB Kevin Jones (six carries for 33 yards) said the first-team offense will be lethal despite failing to score a TD in two games. "A lot of people who don't really watch the whole game and only see the final score might say, 'Same old Lions -- they're losing,''' Jones said. "We're explosive.''
+ Crazy ending dooms Lions: Detroit held a 13-7 lead until the final minute of play, when former Michigan star Braylon Edwards impressed the hometown fans with his first touchdown on a 7-yard fade play in the end zone with 54 seconds left. The play was especially disappointing since it came on fourth-and-7, and Edwards was put into the game specifically for that route. Michael Jameson then intercepted a lateral with no time left for the Browns to account for the final score.
